Photographer’s Note

The Belgian town Bruges among many other things is famous for its lace-makings - a not too cheap souvenir ;-) - but a beautiful one!
Here you can see the process of bobbin lacemaking. Bobbin lace is a lace textile made by braiding and twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on bobbins to manage them. As the work progresses, the weaving is held in place with pins set in a lace pillow, the placement of the pins usually determined by a pattern or pricking pinned on the pillow, as you can see here. You nearly aren't able to follow the fingers and the bobbins of an experienced bobbin lace maker with the eyes ...

Hallo Frank,
interessantes Dokument einer Frau beim Spitzen klöppeln. Um dem Bild ein wenig mehr Intensität zu geben, hätte ich es stärker beschnitten. Ich hab's mal im Workshop gezeigt. Nichts für ungut. Eine schöne Woche wünscht,

Herr Kaiser:

This type of craft, here called bobbin lace, is found in Brazil in local Portuguese descent. Normally they are fishing villages, where women do this work, while men are fishing on the seas.
Good record of this activity.

ein sehr interessantes Bild, es zeigt viele schöne Details des wertvollen Handwerks. Wie du selbst schon geschrieben hast, verbessert "Rolands Beschneidung" den Eindruck des Bildes.

Jetzt weiss ich warum bei uns hier im Lande Tischdecken mit einem Saum aus diesen Spitzen allesamt als "Brükselischi" genannt werden. Auf deutsch "in Brussel gefertigt" !! Von diesen haben wir auch mehrere in unserem Haushalt, welche vor ca 40 Jahren von meiner Schwiegermutter als Mitgift an ihre Tochter gegeben wurden. Diese sind aber seit damals irgendwo versteckt und warten auf einen "besonderen" Anlass !!!
Wieder was dazu gelernt ! Vielen vielen Dank und ein schoenes Abend

Really nice idea to show this so impressive work, i wonder how it is possible to make so quickly a such artwork as i m not even able to make sentences on my key board without making mistakes and so slowly regarding to that work!

Bonjour Frank.
Superbe prise de vue, aux couleurs bien nettes.
Un passe temps très intéressant, j'ai toujours admiré ces femmes aussi habiles, certaines même avec des doigts qui parfois semblaient souffrir d’arthrite.
Comme tu dis dans ta note ce sont des dentelles très cher, par contre dans tous les travaux d’artisanat, c’est impossible de calculer le temps de confection exact, autrement les prix doubleraient. Je parle en connaissances de causes car je fais du tricot et autres travaux manuels. J’adore.
