Photographer’s Note

This is one of the biggest reclining Buddhas I've ever seen. It's inside the Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda, in Yangon, it's around 70 mts long and it dates from the beginning of the 20th century, having been restored around forty years ago. The temple is modern, made of metal and not particularly attractive.But it's the Buddha that gets our attention here - it's not really easy to capture because of the structure of the temple, so I've decided to include just a part and also the woman that was sitting there praying.

A good shot of this praying lady sitting in front of wonderful white Buddha.
I`m nearly sure now that I`ll be in Myanmar again next march and then I have to visit this Pagoda.

a nice fragment of lying lord Buddha. It is so big in size. You wrote that there is not such position in the temple to shoot this shot full. The result is also beautiful with the presence of the woman. Light and clarity is great. Superb presentation.

I do not think there is a lens that fully could photograph this wonderful Buddha. It 'the same problem that I had in Bangkok with another big reclining Buddha. In any case you done a very nice picture by including the girl who prays. Beautiful, brava!

I know the place... And it is true that the structure around the reclinig Buddha is not too beautiful (from inside, outside is better...)
You got a good compo here with the woman anchoring the shot well in the FG with correct choice of vertical framing.
Have you been on the "official POV" too? There are some wooden stairs on the feet side, which you can climb and get a good view of the all statue....

You did well to include the woman in prayer, so the composition is more complete, she gives life to the scene.

Olá Ana,

Magnífica composição. Pensei que fosse uma estátua feminina, mas a sua nota me esclareceu. A imagem é bonita, enorme, tem um brilho que dificulta a captura, mas você se saiu muito bem. O enquadre está excelente, a moça rezando dá uma boa escala de tamanho, cores, luz e nitidez maravilhosas. Ótimo trabalho!

Hello Ana,
You have definitely done the right thing to go for a tight crop of the reclining Buddha, given that the temple structure is not that particularly interesting, as I can get some glimpse here. The tight crop also ensures a strong visual impact especially when it is so sharp and detailed. The inclusion of the woman is wonderful, giving a sense of the scale.

Excellent capture...Lord Buddha seems to be looking directly at the viewers eyes and its this eye contact which makes this picture...and I do like the inclusion of the lady devotee here. Good work!

I think this is one of the first pagoda I went to visit in Yangon! Yes the reclining Buddha is quite impressive...I have made also a couple of pictures and here I like the fact you have included that woman who came for praying...

Very good sharpness in this superb daily life scene from Burma. Good colour and light contrasts. The reclining Buddha looks as big as Wat Po in Bangkok. Tfs!
