Photographer’s Note
Taken at the same time and in the same location as this picture in the village of Dairsie in Fife.
After the harvest of wheat, barley or oats, the straw is baled into the familiar round bales which you can see in the background. The land is then ploughed and left rough. After that, a harrow, an implement consisting of rakes, chains or (as in this case) discs, is drawn across the earth to break it into a finer tilth. In actual fact, this tractor and harrow are simply sitting immobile: the land nearest to the camera has already been harrowed awaiting planting.
Shot in RAW and converted to TIFF in Canon Digital Photo Professional then edited in PSE6.

John,Good evening.
I like the almost monochrome nature of the picture but with the red and blue tractor and harrow at the bottom.
The picture has an odd lack of depth about it, not that it spoils it one bit but I can't work out why.
All the best

Wonderful image. The blue and red of the tractor against the brownish land and the pattern of the bails is most impressive.Best regards Wolf.

Hi John,
Great pov, to create that "lack of depth" illusion. Like a canvas. Great job!

Hello John,
This is another fine picture of the cultivation of fields, taken from your daughter's garden.
It might be interesting to take a series of such images as the farming year progresses.
The picture divides neatly into thirds, and the tractor is placed close to an intersection of thirds lines.
That little tree, positioned on the bottom left to top right diagonal - as is the tractor - gives balance to composition.
As with previous photograph, the telephoto effect and the absence of any sky has foreshortened the perspective markedly.
Mainly for my own amusement, I will post a cropped version as a WS.
Kind regards,
Peter.

Hello John,
i like this picture, it's very good framed and looks like a painting. It is very good composed and has a fine depth. Very nice the blue tractor as contrast.
Fine work, TFS
Have a nice weekend

Hi John,
love this one! Mike mentions its curious lack of dof and for me that in part makes this what I like about it, a graphical image. This graphism is also brought about by the bright colours of the tractor and harrow in contrast to the almost monotone of the rest of the scene. And then there are lines and cylinderical shapes...nice work.
