Photographer’s Note

In south east end of the garden of the Stockholm City Hall towards Riddarholmen there is a column, about 20 meters high with a statue that depicts the freedom fighter Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson (1390-1436), leader of a rebellion in 1434 against Eric of Polerania. Egelbrekt was born in Sweden but his family was of German origin. He was a mine owner and nobleman in the province of Dalarna and dissatisfied with heavy taxation. He started the Egelbrekt rebellion together with miners and peasants. The rebellion was sucessful and in 1435 Engelbrekt was appointed commander of the national forces, but very soon he was forced to step back and in the following year he was assassinated.

The sculptor is Christian Eriksson (1858-1935).

Gorgeous cityscape! Nice day to sit by the water and enjoy the view of the city. The column with the statue is excellent in the foreground. Great light, beautiful colors and very good sharpness. Well done!

Excellent shot of this tower and statue. The city in the background adds nice color and attracts the eye. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has fine sharpness.

L'éclairage n'est pas dur et cela donne un bel attrait à cette vue.
Dans ce cas en ce qui me concerne j'ai tendance à faire un stitch en deux images pour obtenir un format carré.

Well, I think Stockholm must be a magnificent city-those buildings are beautiful and the blue-grey sea and the dramatic sky put them into value. Excellent light and clarity. I like the impressive silhouette of that obelisk with the statue on top.

Hej Ulf,
Blue skies are fine, but dark clouds can make a lot of a difference to a picture. Here I can imagine them symbolically as "clouds of unrest" (orosmoln), as they provide a background to Engelbrekt. He looks really majestic, towering high above the little old town. The people sitting to the left are also nice eye-catchers.

A very impressive statue! I share my brother´s opinion regarding the background clouds. I also like the work of this sculptor, from a town where we both enjoyed several years at school...

Stockholms skyline and the beautiful clouds and blue of the sky are a perfect background for this statue.
The bronze figure in front of the dark cloud: perfect.
The addition of the three people in the left front is good too.

Hummm... I like a lot this photo, this is the core of Stockolm, from where one can see one of the best sight in the whole city. If you have a look at my galleries I shot a similar photo from this pov, but it was in december, the sky was cloudy and I had a very cheap and bad camera so the quality is not so much. So it's a pleasure for me to see you photo so clear and so full of colours and light. You wanted to draw the attention to the monument so the choice of the vertical format is a good one, in this way you could include also those interesting clouds. I like also the presence of those people sitting there. If I ever will return to Stockholm I want to spend a whole afternoon here to shoot the pictures I could not take then!

This elegant statue looks very expressively against the beautiful Stockholm's skyline and the nicely clouded sky. Very good composition with the people, piece of art and the multicolored city's architecture. Excellent job!

Hello Ulf,

An interesting composition with a difficult subject!
High rising structures must be some of the worst to make sense of but you do very well here, I guess it helps to have two or three of them in the background too, where Riddarholmen adds to the scene...
And the lady in red is a small eye-catcher too..!
