Photographer’s Note

View on Mont Saint Michel as the fog was just rising. That day, there was only one place in France with no sun, and I was there ! The river on the left is river Couesnon. It is the frontier between Britanny and Normandy. There's a proverb saying that Couesnon's madness placed Mont Saint Michel in Normandy ! Upstream the place I took this photo from, a dam has been completed a few weeks ago. It is part of a huge project aiming at restoration of the maritime character of Mont Saint Michel. The purpose of the dam is to stock water on high tide and to release water on the ebb tide to clear sand from around the Mont. Of course it will take a lot of years to achieve this. Other works of the project will consist in destroying the dyke between the Mont and the continent, in destroying car parks bottom of the Mont and replacing the dyke with a bridge and transportation. The works began in 2005 and should be achieved in 2015 ! It will cost 164 million euros ! If you visit Mont Saint Michel, you should visit the exposure about History of Mont Saint-Michel and the project for the restoration of the maritime character of Mont Saint-Michel, on the road to the Mont. You will find some informations too on this web site .
