Photographer’s Note

In one of these countless shops a long the busy Chulia Street in the center of Georgetown is also this cooking stove and accessories shop. Squatting on the floor the man tries to solder a stove, which normally is used by hawkers. At the same time he is chatting with his friends.

Cooking gas stoves are used in almost every Malaysian as well as Asian household, because electricity is not only more expensive but also is getting a pan much slower hot then gas. When you fry, you like gas, it’s very quickly hot. For many Asian cuisines gas is the right thing, because the food requires high heat.
