Antwerpen is the largest city of the Flemish Region (Vlaams Gewest), with almost half million inhabitants, and the second in Belgium, after Brussels. Like other cities in Flanders, for French speakers its name is rather different: Anvers. In English is usually just Antwerp.
The city has a major port (second in Europe, after Rotterdam), but it is more famous for its diamond trade: 70% of the world's uncut diamonds pass through the city. I was there in a quick, short trip for other business.
The weather was cold, damp and the sky was grey. I had no time nor mood for careful pictures and the weather didn't help. I saw the very nice Grote Markt, with the Stadhuis (City Hall) and gildehuizen (guildhouses), but I didn't get nice photos.
Early morning there were not many people in the central streets. At the corner of Wolstraat and Grote Goddaard, 300 m (330 yards) from the Grote Markt, I've found this colourful Lenny's restaurant. To its left there are the façades of the restaurants La Rucolla and Via Via Reiscafé.

Antwerpen é a maior cidade da Região Flamenga (Vlaams Gewest), com quase meio milhão de habitantes, e a segunda na Bélgica, depois de Bruxelas. Como outras cidades na Flandres, para os francófonos o seu nome é um tanto diferente: Anvers. Em português é Antuérpia.
A cidade tem um grande porto (segundo na Europa, depois de Rotterdam), mas é mais famosa pelo comércio de diamantes: 70% dos diamantes do mundo passam pela cidade. Eu estive lá numa viagem curta e rápida para outros negócios.
O tempo estava frio, húmido, com céu cinzento. Não tive tempo nem disposição para fotos cuidadosas e a meteorologia não ajudou. Vi a bela praça Grote Markt, com a Stadhuis (Câmara Municipal) e as gildehuizen (casas dos grémios do século XVI), mas eu não tirei boas fotos.
De manhã cedo não havia muitas pessoas nas ruas centrais. Na esquina da Wolstraat com a Grote Goddaard, a 300 m da Grote Markt, encontrei este colorido restaurante Lenny's. À sua esquerda, estão as fachadas dos restaurantes La Rucolla e Via Via Reiscafé.
Antwerpen is de grootste stad van het Vlaams Gewest, met bijna een half miljoen inwoners, en het is de tweede stad in België, na Brussel.
De stad heeft een grote haven (de tweede in Europa, na Rotterdam), maar het is meer bekend om zijn diamanthandel: 70% van geslepen diamanten in de wereld. Ik was er op een snelle en korte reis voor andere zaken.
Het weer was koud, vochtig en de lucht was grijs. Ik had geen tijd, noch stemming, voor het nemen van zorgvuldige foto's en het weer hielp niet. Ik zag de mooie Grote Markt met het Stadhuis en de gildehuizen, maar ik nam geen mooie foto's.
In de vroege ochtend waren er niet veel mensen in de centrale straten. Op de hoek van de Wolstraat en de Grote Goddaard, 300 m van de Grote Markt, vond ik deze kleurrijke Lenny's restaurant. Om de links, er zijn de gevels van de restaurants La Rucolla en Via Via Reiscafé.
