Photographer’s Note

Third in my portrait gallery is Prof.Muhibbe Darga. She is one of the first woman archeologists of Turkey. Prof. Muhibbe Darga was born in Istanbul in 1921. After she finished Erenköy High School for girls, she entered the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Letters in Istanbul University. She worked as an assistant of Prof. H. Th. Bossert for two years after graduation. In 1947 she completed her doctorate. After doing research on Archeology in Germany and France, Darga decided to concentrate on philology and then attained her professorship.
Called "hot blooded youngster of archeology" even in her age of 88 she every year visits the archeological sites in central Anatolia, where she worked every summer for more than 5 decades.
I portrayed her in front of an oil canvas of her, painted by another famous female artist, Berna Türemen.
This capture is been scanned from a b&w print.

Ünlü dostlarımdan oluşan galerimde üçüncü portre, dostum, ablam; Prof.Muhibbe Darga. Nam-ı diğer : Arkeolojinin Delikanlısı.
1921 doğumlu Muhibbe Darga Cumhuriyet döneminin il kadın arkeologlarından.
Senelerce Orta Anadolunun bozkırlarında Hitilerin izlerini sürdürdü. Bugün, 88 yaşında olmasına rağmen, hala her yaz sezonunda o bir zamanlar tozuna toprağına bulaştığı kazı alanlarını ziyaret ediyor.
Bu portresini, bir başka usta kadın'ın, ressam Berna Türemen'in yaptığı portresi önünde çektim "Muhibbe Abla"mın.
Bu kare de siyah beyaz bir baskıdan tarandı.

this is a stunning portrait - even if I had not read your note, the look in her eyes is so compelling that it is clear that this woman has personality and charisma to sell.
I love the strong contrast of the Tmax here - it's vibrant and with a great tonal range.

Muhibbe Hanim'i gordugume inanamiyorum Mesut Bey. Nasil bir insandir o? Tarif edilemez. Cok bilgi, cok emek, cok istek, cok deneyim, cok arzu...tutkulu ornek alinasi bir insandir. Muhibbe Hanimi taniyanlar, altta o yer almadan Berna Turemen'in fircasindan cikan bu tablonun onu tarif eden nefis bir tablo oldugunu soyleyebilirler....sanki Frida ve tablosu gibi.
Her iki isim de Anadolu Universitesi'ne cok emek vermis iki degerli sanatci ve akademisyen.
Saygiyla onunde egiliyorum.

A superb double portrait! Very obvious that two different artists have been at work here. And this lady is really very attractive also at the age of 85. She must be very proud of both portraits!

iyi geceler mesut bey;
ne mutlu size böyle bir ablanız var.(tersi de geçerli tabii..) ortam,kıyafet,fondaki eser hepsi birbiriyle uyumlu ve birbirini tamamlıyor.müthiş bir çekim..
