Whilst Zoo's provide endangered animals a chance at survival and they try to provide an environment as natural as possible, one has to wonder what cost the current generation of this bear has to pay so that its species can live on.

A very thought-provoking photo, made even more so by the use of B&W.

This is such a sad picture. It works very well.

I keep coming back to this trying to see what I could suggest to improve this, but I cant. I I like the concept of only the paws being outside, the bear enjoying the tiniest piece of freedom. Very nicely done Tim.

Nice photo, the nose is a good detail that gives an extra sad element to it.

WOW! Simply wonderful and moving shot. Your comment is full a good sense too. Really nothing to add...it's perfect up to the little leaf piece between the paws. One of my favorites.

Des pattes bien inquiétantes, belle prise de vue et bravo pour votre retouche sur la fleur avec l'insecte.

This is a great shot. The title is even greater. Makes you feel sorry for all these caged-in animals that men capture and exhibit. The B&W makes it even more dramatic, like in photojournalism. More impact on the subject than on the colors.

Quelle photo touchante. Juste le bout du museau avec les pattes de l'animal sont suffisant pour nous faire sentir l'émotion.
Le noir et blanc ajoute à la composition qui est très bien faite.
Nice shot Tim.

Nice idea, the picture, poor bored bear,........ bears often get the smallest cages in the zoo, was that here too?

Two paws and a nose says more then a 1000 words.

détail et clarté de l`image tout a fait remarquable....
Tres belle compo...et tres bien vu....

I get tears in my eyes when I see this picture. Your headline relly touches me... But great picture!

Merveilleuse image... Merci...

A very sad and touching photo. The photo, the title and the note combined create even more powerful feeling.

Excellent photograph and a touching note to match. A photograph says a thousand words, but this one seems to say 100 thousand. Once again let me say, Excellent!

A beautifully executed shot, and a thought provoking note.

WOW!

That's all I can really say... I'm sure everything else has been covered. I can't find any other words to sum up my feelings other than, WOW!

Hi Tim,

Apart from the technical excellence of this photo (wonderful tones, composition, etc.), it's also a pertinent topic these days, and your note sums that up very well. Thanks.

André

Tim,
Excuse the pun, but this is unbearable. I like the note and the B/W is great choice for this sad, but true, moment.

Woow!
It was a very good idea to take this shot!
It really desrcibes sadness of animal although we don't see 'his face' :(((
It is horrible that these poor animals don't have freedom!
Regards
Edyta

I love this photo, so sad, but makes you think. Love the compassion of the view and the fact that it's in black and white. Stunning.

Tim, congrats on a superb image..beautifully rendered in B&W with strong comp. Your inclusion of the bear's snout was a masterstroke. WEll done.
