Photographer’s Note
It s not so common for me to take pictures of people but today was a special day for our northern community.
Aboriginal dancers celebration to welcome the Olympic torch in Whitehorse.
First nation people represent more than 35 percent of the Yukonpopulation and are vey active here.
This dancer will participate to the pen ceremonie of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and paralympics game.
Aboriginal participation is a key element of thesustainability mandate and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the value it brings to the Olympic Movement.

Hi Claude -- Very wonderful photo showing lots of movement. I'm particularly interested in the regalia which has many of the same elements, but is quite different. Killer whale is a clan here in SE AK, and I see a similar rattle held with the drumstic. I've not seen that particular shell here in SE AK, and the cedar is woven into hats mostly. Red and black is the color. I'm guessing that Tlingit is the tribe in Whitehorse? Thanks, Judy
