Photographer’s Note

This is a view of mount Wilzenberg (674 m) in the low mountain range Rothaargebirge. I already showed it here - in summer. This photo was taken last week when autumn showed its bright face. Meanwhile it is foggy and grey and it is raining cats and dogs here.

Wilzenberg is characterized by its special situation - it is absolutely isolated from the main ridge of the mountain range. It is surrounded by many legends. Probably it was a celtic fleeing castle, of which the barriers still are to be seen on its top today. Also a castle in the early Middle Ages is presumed here and since that time top of Wilzenberg is a christian cult place (you can recognize the 29 m high wooden cross in my photo) and still today pilgrimages take place to the chapel on the summit. Last but not least the panorama view from the observation tower up there is really breathtaking (please look HERE).
Right hand in my photo you can see some houses of the beautiful village Grafschaft at the foot of Wilzenberg.

In workshop you can see a wider view.

In map view right hand I put the marker on the chapel on top of Wilzenberg.
