Photographer’s Note
Great Chinese Wall in Dec. 1991 scanned from a negative
The Great Wall of China is billed as the only man-made object visible from space - no sorry, this myth is wrong, it generally isn't when looking with an unaided eye in low Earth orbit. (source Nasa)
But nevertheless, it is an imposant building curving over the hils near Beijing. I was impressed that it could be possible to drive with a small car on the wall.

Hello Achim,
One from your archives today. I like the point of view here which shows us a good section of the wall as it snakes across this mountainous and inhospitable landscape. A good conversion form the original.

Hi Achim,
Simple brown and blue tones make this look nostalgic, what it realy is of course. Well framed shot where the wall makes a diagonal. Lots of visitors visible emphasize importance of this place.

Hi Achim,
The presence of the people on the top of the wall has an effect of scale. The line of the great chinese wall is an asset to the composition, it is dividing well the photo. The point of view takes mys eyes toward the wall than toward the mountains which is giving depth to the photo. The intensity of the line is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Achim: This is a beautiful view scanned from negative. I like the way the wall leads to the peak and the architecture in the fg is so well included in the frame. Regards. Jusni

Hi Achim!
It's good to get the old prints out and share them on TE! This is an excellent POV and a panorama that hasn't changed much in 20 years I suppose, with still as many people visiting the wall (well! probably a lot more!). Quite impressive to think that so many years ago they built it wide enough for a small car to drive on, but I suppose that hopefully no cars are allowed up there!
Perhaps, it was built wide enough for horses and horse-carriages!
Thanks for sharing anyway!
Marie Louise.

Bonjour Achim.
Le scan n'a pas arrangé la photo, c'est dommage, le POV était bien choisi pour montrer un maximum de cette muraille. Elle est tellement visitée qu'on songe maintenant à la protéger.
Bonne journée !
Amicalement

Hello Achim,
Thank you for broken this generally accepted idea, the visibility of the Great wall from the Moon. Digitalization is good, and the crowd of the visitors is distinguished very well. The point of view is very quite selected. A good and beautiful work, useful. Cheer.
Have a nice day

Hallo Achim,
I am very fond of old photos and this subject seems quite suitable to be shown with an old photo. Its tidy compo and brownish colours remind a good postcard.
Just 2 days ago my 11 years son came looking for help to find the Great Wall in Google Earth because he had strong doubts that it could be visible from space. Needless to say, he was right in his doubts, because it was far from easy to find.
Grüß,
José

Hi Achim,
this place of wonder and you make it so wonderful by taking it at the right vantage point.
I could imagine in those days, the wars and the attacks. But those people building it must have sacrifice a lot for us to appreciate it now.
Well presented shot in its beauty and nature.

Foozi

Yes, dear Achim, you're right, we can not see the Great Wall from space, but we can see it in this interesting photograph of 1991, with the evocative colors desaturated by the years. Excellent work with the scanner, bravo!
Ciao, have a nice evening!

Hi Achim!
This is an old one:)! No doubt you've been there in winter, the hills have the same brown colours they had when I was there.Except here you had too many people. Is this Badalig? I know it's much popular. I like this pov showing the wall following along the hill, especially with all those people. Good idea to show it!

Hello Achim
A good scan showing so many people walking along the wall. I was there 3 years ago but I can't remember there being so many people. Good composition from the archives. Tfs, Marlene
