Photographer’s Note
Once again another scan image from 10 years back. Off course the quality is not as good, taken with film and I did my best back then. I hope it is good enough to enjoy.
I would like to redo the trip over again if I could with the new digital camera and my photographing skill, even though I suffered the high altitude sickness and the traveling was very rough to get here.
Photo taken at the Rongbuk Monastery near the base camp of Mount Everest. In the background is the glimpse of the mighty Mt Everest.

Hello Way ,
You say that the quality is not good . I dont think so . It's very good for a scan . And the composition is outstanding , in this square format . A picture full of colors and interesting elements .
Thanks for the share .

Hello Way,
Let's hope that tibetan buddhism can survive in China...
An impressive photo, well composed with a lot of interesting details. The blueish-white landscape behind seems almùost like a curtain in a theater, what a world!

Hi Way,
superbe vision colorée, dans un cadrage parfait avec ces fanions qui volent au vent. Il y beaucoup de profondeur dans l'image grâce aux montagnes d'arrière plan, et un sujet bien placé.
Vraiment bravo !

Hello Way,
Having made a lot of scans nyself the last couple of years I am deeply impressed by the quality of this picture. The colours and sharpness are marvellous. Only, possibly, in the woman in the shade are there any traces of some loss of quality during the scanning process. But the difference is small enough to be quite irrelevant. The superb quality of the composition is far more important.
Kindest regards,
Gert

Hi Way,
An amazing place, a fine image, and a story revealed. I have read a few books about climbing Everest and stand in awe of the place you so well display. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Hi Way, Good quality of the scan of the old photo. I was in many wonderful places but in the predigital era and my photos are not good. And even worse - I made videos but on the tapes, so I watch it very rarely (if I do it..), it is a pity. I would like to go once more to Machu Picchu or Yucatan or Laos but on the other hand it is better to see something new. But i can understand you very well.
beautiful photo from Tibet, I was not so far away!

Hi Way,
You have a lot of experience and even 10 years ago, you were already an avid traveller and a good photographer.
I like the way the flags are entering your composition and framing the man.
Don't know much about scan, but it looks nice and timeless to me.
Cheers!

Hi Way.
I was astounded even before I looked at the date and read your note. What a scan this is, and what a composition. The colours are awesome. There's enormous depth in this, helped by the rough steps in the background, looking almost as if they climb up to the mountains behind. The brightly coloured prayer flags really make an impact, and of course there's the Everest peak behind; I'm sure many who have wished to photograph it have been thwarted by clouds. The quality actually looks tremendous.

Andrew

Hi Way,
Those flags create a strong perspective on this. Man in the shadow sort of emphasizes smallness of man next to this giant mountain. Beautifully framed view of a special place.

Hello Way,
Your scan shots are better than my digital shots !
You have taken splendid trips! I would like to make trips as prestigious as yours. You remind me one of my friends who makes trips like these regularly and who has gone on the Mount Everest in particular. When he goes away, we are never sure he will return.
I like particularly the composition of your shot. I find very interesing to see typical architecture and population with splendid moutains on the background. Moreover, your composition is well balanced and very coloured. A pleasure to look at it.
A new place, a new sickness Way !! :-))
You always walk with a small bag like those given in planes no ? I tease you Way. ;-)
Have a good day.
Take care.

Magali

Hi Way,
the rock is very fine framed with the colourful flags. Despite of a nearly not remarkable noise, it is a great picture in composition and achievment. A very impressive image, TFS

Hello Way.
It might be nice to go back and retake all your photos but I would just to go for the first time ;-). This is a great photo, scan or not. Well composed and well chosen format. I love the sky and of course the magnificent backdrop. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

hello Way,
I think this is great, I like a lot how the square format pulls everything together, while the lines of the prayer flags and mountain in the distance create a sense of great distance, fantastic effect. and great quality too, the only minor comment (question) I have is if it would be possible to bring out a little more detail in the dark silhouette of the person, but that's really a minor point. great shot, my compliments.
best,
Kristine
p.s. lol, in 2000 I didn't even have a camera, and wouldn't have it for another 4 or 5 years, no wonder your skills are much more refined :)

Hello Way -
From this image it looks like you had the basics down pat as the only critical comment that I see is that the young boy could use a bit more light. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

You do get around my dear Way! Adventures in the desert one moment and then high altitudes the next! This scan is superb. I love the composition, you have lost none of your skills in composing with originality and flair these past 10 years. I like the square cropping and of course the DOF is - as is your trademark - magnificent. Great work, congratulations, Lisa

Sabaidee Way
Hard to believe that this is a scan...wonderful quality of it. Compo. is well done with the prayer flags and the pole leading the viewer in. But the best part has to be the glimpse of the mighty Everest. At that altitude, the shadows of clouds play an important role and we see the same in the BG. Excellent!
Best Regards

Hello Way,
also a great take, like this scenery a lot, such a flag we usually have hang up in our garden, but the last storm has torn it away, time for a new one..;-)
beautiful capture, great sharpness and pov..

Hi Way!
I am glad you posted that photo, because it's very interesting, and quite honestly the quality isn't bad at all for an old scan!
One usually sees pictures of the magnificent mountain range, but not so much of what life is like up there!
Interesting to know there is a monastery at the base camp! Do the monks welcome the travellers?
I like the contrast between the daily life scene in the foreground and the magnificence of the mount in the background! What a view to wake up to every morning!
I wonder though: Is it always cold up there?
Thanks for sharing Way.
With my best wishes!
Marie Louise.

Okay, this goes into my favorites right then and there :D
I don't care if it's a tiny bit blurry as any film photography can be, the composition, hhuman presence, colors, theme and flow of the whole picture are just fantastic!
