Photographer’s Note
This stately farmhouse is from the late 19th century built in the style of the "German Historismus", which adopts some historical architecture elements. German emperor William II was very fond of this style that is still popular in rural surroundings. The house is located about an hour north of Hamburg in a hilly region called “Hüttener Berge”. Tall oaks surround the home creating a private and serene setting that is very much appreciated by the tourists who come to rent a holiday flat that recently has been arranged by the landlady.
Schleswig-Holstein is one of the most attractive and most significant domestic tourism locations: accordingly, the tourist economy has a strong presence in Schleswig-Holstein with good developing perspectives. Today the tourism sector is almost as big as the processing industry in Schleswig–Holstein and in rural areas, tourism is often the most important starting point for the development of the regional economy.
Generally, the condition of the Schleswig-Holstein countryside may be evaluated as good. It is dynamic, modernized and supported with full infrastructure. The roads are good, as well as highways, the transport and communication infrastructure. But the basic reasons of rural areas popularity are still silence, placidity, and nearness of the nature.

Guten Abend Harriet!
Grüße aus dem nass-kalten Siegen! Brrr!

Hi Harriet,
When I hear "Hüttener Berge" I think immediately of the big "Tankstelle" along BAB 7. We have passed here many times, but never realised that there are such idyllic places in the vicinity. Now we have in fact discovered that the best way to see Germany, is to leave the Autobahn and follow the rural roads. Hopefully we will all the idyllic places, just like this one. A very pleasant picture with warm and attractive colours!
Kind regards

Hi Harriet.
Nice work on this one, as the contrasting light and shadow make it a tricky exposure. But the exposure of the bright part is well controlled, and the two trees make a delightful frame for the farmhouse, which seems almost 'in hiding'. I like the dappled light on the upper part and roof of the building.
One can imagine how much the visitors appreciate its setting. Interesting to read about the balance of touristy infrastructure and traditional rural tranquility in this region.

Andrew

Bonjour Harriet,
un endroit très paisible, il semble vraiment approprié à la retraite. Tu l'as photgraphier en équilibrant bien ces lumières difficiles, les ombres étaient pas faciles à gérer.
My regards.

Bonsoir, mon amie Harriet,
Tout dans cette composition respire la tranquillité, la quiétude. J'aime beaucoup le contraste entre l'ombre et la lumière donnant un charme fou à cette très belle maison.
Douce et très agréable composition.

Hi Harriet, you have composed the image well to have the 2 trees naturally framing it in this manner. The house itself is wonderful and is in an architectural style I have not seen before. You have managed the light and shade extremely well. I like the wondows with the curtains half drawn, it makes the viewer wonder who is lurking behind there watching you out of the window. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week, Lisa.

Good Morning Harriet,
You have captured a lovely 'play' of light and shadow on the house, which insinuates the setting beautifully. I do like how the long shadow of the framing tree leads towards the nicely positioned door.
The sharpness is exactly right ... too much and it would have spoilt the gentle ambience.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Harriet,
I like your composition, using the trees to frame this impressive entrance. Just seeing this close-up, and not reading your note, I would have found it hard to imagine this being just a farmhouse. It must have been a very rich farmer to have built this.
Kind regards,
Gert

Seems like a really nice place to live!
Picturesque if any, the setting seems most romantic with the plants and trees surrounding the building...

Hi Harriet,
great presentation of this lovely building with a nice POV. Great natural framing by the trunks in both side. Use of light is not easy here and you did it perfectly. Nice to see the shadow and lighted portion. Green lawn in FG allows up to watch the beautiful perspective. Great shot indeed.
Congrats.

Hallo Harriet,
It looks very inviting to spend a few days in the bucolic peace of the charming, much "19th century" estate. I like how the big trunks frame the photo, the same way the trees seem to cover the whole house.

dear Harriet,
this space arrangement is very unique,
fore lighted wide garden with trees, and back old house with red and green ivy in the shadow make rich room to feel artistic fragrance and taste for me.
it suggests deep autumn air there very well,
thank you for your excellent shot,

Hello Harriet. I can see how nice and sheltered this home is from the heat of the sun on account of these large trees out front. I am sure the trees were much smaller in size when this place was built. I love the photo and your very in depth and intelligent note on this location. Thanks for sharing.
