Dark clouds and sunshine Photo

Photographer’s Note

Some days ago I visited the second highest mountain of my state, Nordrhein-Westfalen, the Kahler Asten, situated in the low mountain range Rothaargebirge. Its altitude is 841,9 metres a.s.l.

It was a day with a predominantly overcast sky and sun some times only had a chance for some minutes. This a is a view in southern direction. The top of Kahler Asten was surrounded by dark clouds but in the south bright sunshine flooded the landscape with a somehow mystic light ...

In map view right hand I marked my position when taking the photo. A bit right hand you can see the meteorological observation station with its tower on the very top of the mountain.

In my yesterday's photo taken only some kilometres from here I showed you weather one day later - what a difference!

schön wie sich die Farbschichten übereinander stapeln, gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut, trotz des durchwachsenen Wetters eine ziemlich gute Fernsicht..

Hallo Frank. Wolken und Licht scheinen schon die Vorboten des herannahenden Winters zu sein. Auch der name Winterberg paßt deswegen gut zu dieser Landschaft. Ein guter schuss mit dramatischwer Wirkung. Viele Grüße, wolfgang.

What to say - Autumn. Nature are ready for the winter now - despite all those shrill cries about Global Warming. Personally I think that GW are over already - we have such a frosty weather now - completely unlike last years.
Great work - only blue, black and yellow here - interesting composition.

Still no snow, though.

Good Morning Frank, This is a really moody picture. The darkness of the clouds on the left would indicate that bad weather may be coming. But look, further toward the right and center, there appears to be hope for the day. A nice study in cloud formations. The question is, how did the day turn out. Ha ha. Regards Roger

Hi Frank,
This looks indeed like a very dense cloud! Looks like it will provide the necessary snow in Winterberg. A good name for a ski resort anyway;-) Very fine colours and silhouettes of the mountains.

ein phantastisches Bild, wie aus dem Lehrbuch für Meteorologen! Ein erstklassig komponierter Eindruck dieser typischen Landschaft im Gegenlicht. Besonders beeindruckend ist die tiefe linke Wolke. Glückwunsch!
