Thursday I deed a short trip to Mons, Bergen in Dutch, during my stroll through the city found I different lovely buildings, you can see the Sainte – Waudru church, taken out of the Place du Chapitre

History:
A beautiful example of a church in Brabantian Gothic style is the Sainte-Waudru church in Mons. The gothic church replaced older churches in Romanesque style. The building started in 1450 and lasted until 1690. The different architects all respected the original plan, so that the Sainte-Waudru church remained quite homogenous in style. A 190 m (!) high tower was planned, but never finished due to lack of money. Although the church looks quite plump from the outside, the inside, however, has all the characteristics of the vertical late gothic style. In the 16th century a marble rood loft was placed between the choir and the nave of the church. It was decorated with splendid alabaster statues of the Virtues. The rood loft was destroyed during the plundering in the wake of the French Revolution. The alabaster statues survived and were again put on display in the choir and the transepts in 1930.
One of the other attractions inside the church is the 'Car d'Or', a gilded wooden carriage used during an annual procession. When visiting the church, one should also admire the stained-glass windows from the 16th century, made by Claix Eve.

Dag John,

The very good managment of autumn's light give here warm colors, beautiful contrats and pleasnat play of shade. Framing well selected and the POV give a great depht to the image with the prospect to the tower on the left.

Hi John,
The two benches at the foreground corner seem quite important for the composition, they lead up to this vey special churcu. They are also part of a long diagonal line including the stairway to the church and the beautiful trees to the left. A very fine picture!

A fine composition of this very imposing church. The point of view is well chosen encompassing a number of different interesting elements, such as the bench and the lovely tree, before the eyes alight on the main subject. I like the way the light plays across the façade and that lovely tree on the left. Beautiful warm colours and superb sharpness.

Dag John. Ik herken de kerk onmiddellijk; zou je geloven dat ik er zelfs nooit ben binnen gegaan? Mooi genomen vanuit een goede positie; het is per slot van rekening een groot gebouw dus niet zo evident. Ik vind het mooi dat de belforttoren daar links nog even meepiept. Echt heel leuk om dit terug te zien.

Olá John, lovely light at the end of the day and wonderful autumn colors on the trees. You did a great job with the exposure, considering all this FG at the shadow. Nice inclusion of the benches at right as if they were presenting the imposing gothic structure.

I impressive, 240 years to built this church! Amazing! It has a very pretty architecture. And about the inside, is it rich too?

A very nice church with an outstanding architecture. I like here the usual clarity and the very warm afternoon light. There are wonderful chromatic contrasts, like that of the orange leaves and the green grass. The perspective sense is enhanced by the bench in fg. A fine atmossphere too.

Bonjour John,

Une journée sans vent d'après les drapeaux, idéal pour la photo... Voilà une église qui me rappelle quelques souvenirs, j'ai déjà vu l'extérieur et l'intérieur de cette belle église quand je travaillais sur le tracé TGV dans le Nord de la France, c'était une de mes destinations de sortie les WE !!! Mais à l'époque pas de numérique... Belle photo, la belle lumière automnale met bien en relief l'architecture massive de l'édifice. Joli coup d'oeil, merci John.

Very unique architecture of a church...looks very strong and robust from this POV. Like the lead-in created with the path and the addition of the two benches which add to the picture. The touch of autumn in the tree on the left creates a good frame. Well done!
