Photographer’s Note
A green room is a room in a theater, studio, or other public venue for the accommodation of performers or speakers when not required on the stage.
Its function is as a break/touch-up lounge so that performers do not have to go back to wardrobe/dressing rooms and are still easily accessible for their call.
The first recorded use of the term was in 1701 but the origin of the term is unknown and is the source of many folk etymologies such as:
The term green room can be traced back to the East End of London, UK. In Cockney rhyming slang, greengage is stage, therefore greengage room is stage room and like most rhyming slang it gets shortened, hence green' room. (This info came from the late, great comedian and dancer Max Wall).
In some explanations, it is said that the colour was a response to limelight—early stage lighting, although this is unlikely as limelight was invented in 1820 and the term "green-room" dates back to at least 1701 (mentioned in Colley Cibber's Love Makes a Man), and probably earlier.
However, this room is backstage at the Gothenburg Central Station.

Bonjour Gunnar

Beau travail !
Amical salut !

Hello Gunnar,
Not what you would like to encounter after a heavy night :-) The woman is well included and I like the perspective along the repeating lines of the closed doors. Well rendered colours and superb clarity.

Hej Gunnar,
A wonderful proof that fine pictures can be found in the most unexpected places. The two shades of green match each other very nicely and the woman in grey, white and blue breaks the colour scheme in a fine way. Her posture is very elegant as she stretches her arms into the safe-box and moves her right leg a little bit back.
There couldn't have been much light here but it is very well handled.
A remarkably attractive picture, very well seen.

Gert

Hello Gunnar,
As a change from your usual red, here we have the complementary colour- green - in abundance.
The flash has lit up the green of the nearer lockers, breaking up the expanse of colour into lighter and darker shapes as it is reflected off the different angles.
There are strong lead-ins along the horizontal divisions of the lockers, which take our eyes straight towards the girl – the main element of interest.
She is positioned exactly on a vertical line of thirds, and faces towards the centre of the image.
Her gaze, and her arms thrust into the locker, introduce an element of dynamism, as also does the stance of her legs as she moves towards the locker.
The angle the rear of her white bag makes, parallels that of her right leg.
In the WS diagram I have drawn a triangle to show the strength of her stance. Even that discarded paper cup seems to play a part in the composition.
An unusual and very satisfying image.
Kind regards,
Peter.

Hello Gunnar
Amusing subject matter and a big step away from your usual red. Perfectly composed and it is always interesting to read Peter Geldart's critiques. Good photos can be found in our own backyards - no need to travel further! Tfs, Marlene
