Photographer’s Note

Durdle Door is a natural geological formation along the Dorset coast, reachable by the coastal path near Lulworth Cove. This area is part of the world heritage area known as the Jurassic Coast, so named because of the exposures of folded Cretaceous and Jurassic strata.

The management of light and colour was tricky so I used two Lee Grey grad filters 0.9 & 0.6 to help balance the sky. This is not a HDR but single frame but I slightly dodged the arch and cliffs in photoshop and increased colour saturation to enhance the sky and beautiful turquoise water around the Arch.

Excellent PP to get the effect desired, well handled exposures of the sun glow. and the curve of the beach is top notch. Colours, detail and high POV make this a classic shot of this place.

Good to see you here again and with such a fantastic shot! Yes, at first glance it looks like a HDR. Very difficult light but you got it perfectly and I just love the effect you got on the sun and on the water and the sand. Wonderful color on the clouds too. Great job, Steve!

Whatever the tricks you have used to achieve this stunning shot, what I like is that it doesn't go over the edge.

Just like you are mentioning, the turquoise spot around the arch is a very nice detail and so is the red kick underneath the big puffy cloud.

You've built a strong composition, placing yourself in order to use the orientation of the rock to point towards the sun.

You even caught a monster in the middle of the water who is about to surface. You will make big bucks with this image, showing the new Dorset monster.
