Photographer’s Note

Here a corner of the just renewed museum of Aphrodisias. The major difference is, that in the old museum windows was been opened on the walls just behind the sculptures and blended the eyes of the visitors.
My friend, the famous architect and poet Cengiz Bektaş, has redesigned the museum. The openings for the daylight are now close to the ceiling and additional artificial light illuminates those unique pieces of the Aphrodisias art of sculpture. Also the floors are been covered with black marble and walls been painted in pale blue which creates a nice contrast with the light yellow of the sculptured.
On the opening day of the museum on last Saturday 24 October 2009) also I held a speech and gave some infromation about Aphrodisias and it's treasures to the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, as well as a group of distinguished guests from all over Turkey. Afrodisias'ın yenilenen müzesinden bir köşe. Bu renovasyondan sonra ortaya çıkan en önemli fark; pencerelerin yeri. Eski müzede heykellerin arkasında yer alan pencerelerden gelen gün ışığı, ziyaretçilerin gözünü alıyor, bu birbirinden güzel ve Afrodisias heykelcilik okulunun en güzel eserlerinin ayrıntılarını göremiyorlardı.
Dostum, ünlü mimar-ozan Cengiz Bektaş'ın projesi ile bu pencereler yeniden düzenlendi, ilaveten takılan spotlarla şimdi eserler daha güzel algılanabiliyorlar. Diğer yandan müzenin zemini de siyah mermerle kaplandı, duvarlar açık maviye boyandı; bu sayede eserlerin hafif sarı rengi ile duvarın mavisi güzel bür kontrast oluşturuyor, ayrıntılar daha kolay algılanıyor.
Geçtiğimiz Cumartesi günü (24 Ekim 2009)yapılan açılış merasimine katılan Kültür ve Turizm Bakanı Ertuğrul Günay ile, seçkin bir ziyaretçi grubuna ben de bir konuşma yaptım ve gerek bu müzenin gerekse Afrodisiasın özellikleri hakkında misafirleri bilgilendirdim. WS de bu konuşmayı yaparkan çekilmiş bir resmim yer alıyor.

Hello Mesut,
A fine composition of these impressive statues. The light is well managed and you have succeeded in bringing out the detail in the sculpture work to great effect. The shadow play against the walls introduces another element of interest and contributes to the mood of the scene.

müze gerçekten çok güzel restore edilmiş.iki yıl önce dolaşmıştım burayı bu görüntü yapılan çalışmanın güzelliğini çok iyi anlatıyor.özellikle zeminin parlak ve temiz görünümü yansımalara uygun olmuş.ayrıca sizde mükemmel bir bakış açısı ile yansıtmışsınız.
bu arada iki yıl önce burada çektiğim bir kareyi workshop olarak yolluyorum.

yansimalari farkedince kompozisyonun güzelligini de farkettim.
bence ilk güzelin yansimasini da tam almaliydin.baslangicini kaçirdigimiz filim gibi hissediliyor bence.

Hi Mesut Merhaba! Interesting museum! I wish one day to visit as the city Aydin! (The city was built near a marble quarry that was extensively exploited in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, and sculpture in marble from Aphrodisias became famous in the Roman world. Many examples of statuary have been unearthed in Aphrodisias, and some representations of the Aphrodite of Aphrodisias also survive from other parts of the Roman world, as far afield as Pax Julia in Lusitania)
