Photographer’s Note
Following on from my last post, this is a different view of North Arm Cove, (oyster lovers heaven) now we’re looking South, the sun was just skimming the tops of the trees
I’d had my wide angle on for most of the afternoon, but then a slight breeze sprung up and the water started to ripple, there goes the reflection shots I thought, so I took the opportunity to pull the 70-300 out of the bag. This old boat quickly got my attention.
She’s been a working girl for the last sixty years, every day she’s been used to service the many hundreds of oyster leases that are situated in the North Arm Cove area. Who knows how many hours she’s racked up. How much money she’s made for her owners.
I loved her lines, the straight stem, the slight flare in the bows, the smallish cabin and of course, the working cockpit. I’ll bet she’s got another sixty years left in her at least.

Hello Peter,
A good close-up on this old lady of the sea. The composition is well framed and as you remark benefits much from the lovely reflections cast by the early evening sun. I like also the glimpses of the trees in the background. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Peter,
You speak about this boat as one speaks about a woman, who very gave for the growth and the prosperity of her family. The light is superb, and you managed his intensity well. I like contrast with the background remained in the shade. Very beautiful image, congratulations.

Hi Pete, your title lead me to all sorts of wild assumptions, but I see we're talking about a boat. You're going all Kilgallon on us with that amazing light and those refelctions. Your DOF is excellent too, the f/7 seems to be a favourite with you - and a very effective one at that. Noice work cobber, enjoy your week, Lisa.

Ahh Pete,
The afternoon light dancing all around. Making nice shadows but at the same time splashing glorious highlights in various places. Yes, I reckon the old girl has another sixty of grunt left. Nice peaceful presentation.
Cheers,
Graham.

Hi Peter,
Oh you also get poetic on older means of transport... Yes, this one has character. And variation of still and rippling water looks nice too.

Hello Peter,
A diffult but superb managment of light give this very nice shot. I like especially the play well balanced between white ( the bota, the water, the houses) and the contrast. This play give an image full of rythm, of dynamism with a greta depht. Congratulations.
Have a nice week,
Roger

Hi Peter,
wonderful portrait of this interesting working lady (by the way: I am glad that you are sharing my passion for boats). Although you have nicely drawn the attention to her sunny side some small signs of decay are visible that tell me that she is already a little bit raddled.
Very well working POV and an amazing light. My compliments!
Warm regards

Hi Pete,
She is a realy beauty with her lovely profile making a striking reflection in the calm harbor in this fine late day light.
Similar in design to a Maine Lobster boat.
Oh you got me thinking of lobster, oysters and some icy cold drauft beer.
Oh well will have to wait till next summer.
Regards, Tom

Hello Peter: The skimming diagonal sunlight creates excellent contrasting details on the working lady. The reflection and small ripples making the view so pristine. Well done and have a nice day. Best regards. Jusni

Hi Peter
Nice shot of the marina with the small boat perfectly farmed in the right corner giving it room to go somewhere. Then the wind rippling the otherwise quiet water, and not to be forgotten the reflection. Oh forgot, you even got some sunlight on the top of your photograph. Nicely framed and executed. well done
Best regards

Hi Peter,
I like the stiff reflection and superbs rendition of the still water.
you have allowed the blurry scene to be appreciated in a calm mood.
The angle of light hit the boat and give a powerful contrast.

Hi Peter,
She does look rather beaten up somewhat, but for the moment, she seem at ease and peaceful, resting ins this serence and calm water soaking up this sunshine. the light is very beautiful. Lovely composition. Great details and natural colors.

Hi Peter, Very fine image with muted lower-light tones. The stillness echos loudly from this photograph. Well placed boat with more space ahead than behind as it should be. The 300mm works well in your steady (pre-drink) hands. Reminiscent of Canada Bay without the high density buildings taking over now. TFS. Murray.

Hello Peter, Lovely shot, I particularly like the way the boat is lit up by the late sun given it a golden glow, not only the boat but also the top of the trees. I have spent the last 5 minutes looking for the working girl but she is nowhere to be seen. ;-)). Oh the boat, beautiful old girl!!!.
Thanks
Take care
