Photographer’s Note

Bir sokağın köşesine yerleştirdiği minik kulübesinde ufak tefek şeyler satıyordu. Önünden geçerken beni durdurup fotografını çekmemi istedi. Portre çekiminde deneyimli değilim. Kırmadım isteğini. Ertesi gün aynı köşeden geçerken ne dükkan vardı ne de amca. Kamera şakası gibi.. Hayal mı gördüm diye sordum soruşturdum.Bir gece önce kahvede epey cin hikayesi dinlemiştik. ;-))) Meğer belediye eski Mardin'i temizlemek için tipik mimariye uymayan ve kaçak yapılan herşeyi yıkmaya karar vermiş. Ben de bu amcanın kulübesinde son fotoğraflarından birini çekmişim.

He stopped me and asked me to take his photo. Quite unusual considering that most shop owners in Mardin did not like to be photographed. Next day the little hut and the man was no longer there. As it happens, the municipality had decided to knock down houses and make-shift shops like this to bring back the authentic look of the city. They did it overnight and probably that was one of his last photoes in his little shop.

Very nice capture, this is the real life...
A good portrait, a face full of character showing a whole life in his rides, gretat colour and good idea to show his little shop...part of his life!!

Hello Petek,
This is an interesting photo showing the salesman surrounded by all his goods. The picture gets an extra importance when reading your note. I wonder if he had time to collect his things and set up his shop somewhere else, or whether his life was ruined by the municipality. I thought shops like this were part of the authenticity of a city?

What a great image of the salesman in his little shop. The story behind is an incredible sad story. I think that in the long run, the local authorities will regret this decision. The way it happens - over night -is also very sad. Let`s hope he will reestablish his shop another place. The expresion of the man is great. Good framing. Good work. Thanks for sharing.
