The stone barn in situ! Photo

Photographer’s Note

Good Morning Everyone,

When I posted my last shot, Lakeland Barn, some people asked if I had a wider view, showing the location of the barn. I promised to check my folders and so, here is the wider view.

The path, leading alongside the wall, was the end of our walk from Easdale Tarn to Grasmere.

You can now see that there was more than one barn. They are all built with the same local stone, although one now appears to have a corrugated, tin roof. Though it is not so esthetically pleasing, it does add a little extra colour to the shot.

The barns snuggle cosily under the hilside and are close to the path for easy access.

This shot gives an opportunity to see the drystone wall more clearly. The weathered stones have interesting patterns of lichens and mosses!

Hello Bev,
I like this composition, which makes good use of the curving stone wall to lead the eyes towards the barns and the adjacent trees. The image has a pleasing balance to it and benefits from a good light, fine natural colours and excellent sharpness. The partly cloudy sky contributes much to the atmosphere. That's such a lovely, pleasant and beautiful photograph!
It's painting-like and I love it that way!
The level of sharpness is suitable to this image! Exposure is correct and the balance between light and shade is just wonderful! Colors are so beautiful too!
The composition is quite attractive!

A very nice landscape with the first warm autumn's colors well collected. Very nice clouds in the blue sky. The FG, very well selected give a great depht to the image. A very nice invitation to discovery this country.

Hi Bev,
The stonewall is leading the eye from the close foreground and into the picture, thus creating a very good depth. Your composition is clearly based on the diagonal and the spruce has a good place here too. A very beautiful and interesting landscape! I also appreciate the wider view here.

See it's nice in its environment, we get to see the stone walls that serve as fences and you even have a nice perspective from the trail on the left. Okay next challenge such a view with close up of sheep !!!

Just got back from Isle of Skye last night.
Had to comment on this one as I was standing right next to you when you took it! ;D You made much better use of the wall than I did. I love the curving perspective of the wall, which leads us right to the three barns. There were some dark shadows that day and you have lightened them to perfection. We couldn't have had better weather could we?

This image is a real stunner with the old moss stained rock wall winding gently towards the unique stone barns.
The wonderfullly shaped evergreens contrast brilliantly with the magnificent blue sky.

I really like this, for some reason it makes me think of Tolkien and hobbits :) the composition works really well, the stone wall in the foreground is both a great natura frame and a lead-in line towards the barns. and you're right about the textures of those old stones, with my recent obsession with abstractions I could spend hours on them alone :) great shot, my compliments.

Hi Bev.
Glad I caught up with this one. It's almost got a 'classic Royaldevon' air about it, with that drystone wall going one way and then curving off in the opposite direction, passing that nice little agglomeration of stone barn buildings before reaching the tree. The undulating horizon makes a pleasing background diagonal, and the sky is well captured too. Very sharp - I think I can see a sheep or two. Just a very pleasing scene in all respects, with great depth and superb light.

The path bordered by the craggy stone wall creates a fine lead-in leading to the stone barns in the BG. The cloud is a bit overexposed and I might have wished a bit of the punch on the lovely landscape part which is lit up by the nice sunlight. Composition is excellent..I have done a small ws, trying to give my version of this very nice picture...hope you won't mind
