Photographer’s Note

Last weekend we went to visit my wife’s sister and her husband, they have a holiday house at North Arm Cove. It’s a gentle drive of about two and a half hours north of Sydney. North Arm Cove is on the upper reaches of Port Stephens, a fantastic waterway known for its superb fishing and its oysters. Sydney Rock oysters are famous, but they don’t come from Sydney Harbour anymore, the variety known as Sydney Rock are farmed up and down the coast of New South Wales.

North Arm Cove is oyster lover’s heaven, they are growing by their thousands on the rocks at the waters edge. All you need is a shucking knife and you can eat as many as you like, for free.

This is an oyster farmers punt, they use the derrick to lift the trays of mature oysters out of the water.
I shot this quite late in the day, as you can see by the shadows.
Normally I don’t use a CPL, but for this shot I liked what it did to the sky and the water.

Oh no, please, do I have to eat another ten oysters, I’ve already had thirty, I guess I can force them down.
Pity you weren’t there Lisa, you’d have been in heaven.
