Photographer’s Note

The town was first mentioned in the 13th century.
In 1329-1388, the magnificent Brick Gothic cathedral was built, and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, or "Our Lady"
In the early 16th century it was the residence of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus who used it as a site for several of his observations.
In 2005 the tomb of Nicolaus Copernicus was found in the cathedral.
