Photographer’s Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Today, I am posting a shot of one of the distinctive features of the Lake District, a stone barn.
This one was shot near the village of Grasmere, on the path to Easdale Tarn. It is characteristically made from the local stone, resembling very much the nature of the nearby drystone walls.
In the N.W of England, you will find these stone barns and the drystone walls as a regular feature. I assume that the barns here are used in a similar way to the ones near my home, that is, for the storage of food for use during the bleak periods.
Many of the barns have been renovated and are now used as desirable residences. They can command very high prices. It was nice to see one still in its original state.
Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer fedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
A fine composition with the wall on the right making a very nice lead line towards the old barn. I like the warm tones of the old stones, which contrast nicely with the cloud filled sky with its little patches of blue. Good sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bev.
A truly perfect exposure, I think. Very well controlled, and giving us mellow colours which you have not over-saturated or made too contrasty. Really pleasing lines and angles, a nice cured horizon behind, and lovely shadow on the wall from the tree. Simple but done with so much care as to be exquisite. I love those drystone walls - we have quite a lot of them in the western part of Victoria, where they were built by Irish immigrants.
Regards,
Andrew

Hallo Beverley!
The patterns of these quarrystone walls always a gain are fascinating - and beautiful! This all seems to be built for eternity ... A photo totally without red and yellow - interesting!
Greetings from a cold and humid Germamny!

Interesting structure Bev, I assume that drystone walls are the same as dry stack stone like here in New England. Is there an interior frame of timber? Great shot, wonderful detail and a nice angle for the composition.

Hi Bev,
A very good and interesting picture in many ways. One thing is of course the architectural issue here. Another thing is the excellent composition of the picture, with thirds and diagonals and everything else.
A very fine combination of note and photo!
Kind regards

Hi Bev,
There must have been alot of hard labor that went into building this sturdy barn but for the looks of it was worth it because it has been standing for so long.
Love the warm light that brings tranquil shadows on this old stone beauty.

Hi Bev
This stone barn image could look alpine rather than british, it would also be nice to show it in a larger framing including its environment. Well exposed image.
Have a nice day JY
