Photographer’s Note
Another shot in my Muay Thai series, most the most recent images from Phuket (pronounced pu-ket), Thailand.
Like in any sanctioned fight, Muay Thai boxers have cornerman who aid them between rounds, although their job differs in Muay Thai vs. normal boxing. Cornermen can often be seen actually lifting their fighters back to the corner in an effort to relax the legs, massaging the arms, legs and stomach muscles in an effort to relax the muscles as well as the common cut and swelling treatment seen in conventional boxing.
I like this shot as the cornerman seems more concerned about the opponent then the fighter does.
I hope you like the shot,
- Dan

Excellent shot! I love the light in this picture. Also very photogenic expression on the cornerman's face. Thanks for sharing.

Salut Dan,

Hi Daniel. This is a dramatic and expressive image. The two figures are caught at the perfect moment to express their feelings. The composition, with the strong V shape containing the two heads adds to the impact. The de=saturation works here very well, giving it a very graphic quality. regards kevin

This is the best of the series Dan..dont know how close you are..the focal length isnt mentioned..the sweat..those eyes and rippling arms..fabulous stuff bro..
Love the light around this place..the effect on the skin..brings out the rugged texture...

This is a beautiful picture. The post treatment is really great, with thislight desaturation giving this very intimist light. wonderful picture.

Hello Dan,
A sight full of drama, perfectly rendered in darker well matching colour tones. A very human document.

Excellent series you're posting here, Dan. I like the desaturated look in this shot - in fact, the boxer seems a bit 'desaturated' too! Telling faces/looks. Great shot!

hi Dan,
you're good in making close portrait !
good frame and focus on the 2 characters, in front of a dark blurred back-ground. and good light on their faces, that allows us to see the expressions on them.
A living shot.

Dan,
it's an interesting series. I did not like the first ones, but the last 2 you posted are excellent.
One thing I don't like in the whole thing is the post-processing you do. It looks like HDR. It removes the raw documentary feel your pictures would have. Now they look more like advertising pictures, which is a shame.
What's going on at the bottom here? the bottoms 1/5th looks hazy...
This photo holds a whole story in a single frame. That's why it's the strongest to me. We can see the effort, the pain, worries, etc...all sorts of feeling very strong in the picture. I like the relation between the 2.
The long focal lenght and wide aperture is very good at isolating the couple.
I think the whole series would look awesome with a more raw pp, black and white with strong contrasts and the noise brought by the iso1600.
see you,
Marc

Hi Dan
A good bit of portraiture. The fighter looks out of it and the cornerman has a worried look about him. I like how the out of focus BG is on the diagonal. The selective focus allows the two men to really stand out.
