Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse Photo

Photographer’s Note

Hi there,

This is my brand new discovery- Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse.

This lighthouse is located in a very beautiful location with very interesting rock formations near Lagos, Algarve in Portugal.
It was on paper since 1883. In 1902, another comission nominated by the Navy Ministery proposed the instalation of a 6th order device. In the 30rd December 1911 it seemed that finally the lighthouse was going to be built in the place of an old chappel in ruins (Capela da Nossa Senhora da Piedade / Our Lady of Mercy chappel) sold by the church to the navy but, once again, it was a dificult task because the local parrish was against it.
Finnaly, on the 14th March of 1912 the chappel and some nearby buildings were in the possession of the Navy.
The Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse started is work in the 1st July 1913.
Initialy it was equiped with a 4th order rotation device showing 5 white flashes every 10 seconds. It used a Petrol lamp and the rotation was provided by a clockwork device.
The tower has 5 mts of height and is located at 51 mts of altitude.
The 4th order optic was temporarly replaced by a 6th order (steady white light) one in Mai 1923. In the 15th December the 6th order device was replaced and the light started to flash (2 1/2 seconds off and 4 seconds on).

The lighthouse was electrified in 1952 wich allowed a 15 mile range and later a 18 mile range.

In 1956 a new device was bought working with electricity but switching automaticly to gas if needed.

In 1983 it was automatized with a GISMAN model. Its electrical with simple flashes in a 7 seconds period and a range of 20 miles.

miejsce to naprawde niesamowite aczkolwiek w te strone byl akurat chyba najmniej ciekawy widok. :)
Nie mniej Twoje wykonanie zamienilo obrazek w dzielo sztuki. Przede wszystkim niebo jest odlotowe: domyslam sie ze dzieki Twojemu ulubionemu filtrowi plus rowniez polarowi i obrobce.
Swietne kolory i porazajaca ostrosc.

witaj Darek,
swietna fotka, osotrosc, kolorki i to fantastyczne niebo zasluguja naprawde na pochwale. Siedziales chyba w jakichs krzaczorach robiac ta fotke, a potem wspinales sie do gory ta waska, zolta sciezka:) Wykonanie to juz twoj znak firmowy, doskonale.

This is a nicely composed shot with the path creating a diagonal leading the eye into the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness. The sky is outstanding and you have captured it nicely.

Hello Darek,
I like the way the well worn track leads us up to the charming lighthouse and the palm trees. The superb sky makes a splendid backdrop for the warm tones of the architecture. Beautiful ambient light and excellent colours and sharpness complete a fine piece of photography. Well done.

Ce ciel est des plus fabuleux avec des nuages comme des coups de pinceau dans l'azur. Le phare d'une autre époque joue les sentinelles au sommet de la colline parée de plantes sauvages.

Another of your sparkling photo Dariusz!

The bright light yet a very good clarity creates a fine Mediterranean atmosphere. Apart from the very special sky, the whole scene seems very familiar to me: I can recognise every bushes in the photo because they grow here too!
I like here the simpe but wise composition showing this cosy lighthouse from below and so with a lot of dynamism and movement. Actually the whole image is very alive.
