Photographer’s Note
The view from Ostré. This Northern-Bohemian pilgrimage place was founded by the Jesuits who built here a small church with two belfries and an impressive staircase at the begining of 18th century. At the annual feast, on 3rd of May, the place is full of pilgrims. The place has a splendid view to the romantic Úštěk Basin with Sedlo, the highest hill of the Czech Central Highland (725 meters). The buildings are owned by the Catholic church and unfortunately there are in very sad condition, thanks to 40years existing „care“ of communist goverment.
The town down at the foothill is Úštěk. It is situated in the picturesque landscape of Northern Bohemia, on the boundary of the Nature Reserve of České Středohoří (Czech Highland).
The town, as a preservation area, and its neighborhood attracts many visitors from the country as well as from abroad who may admire many beautiful corners and places. During the summer, the small-town atmosphere changes as if touched by a magic wand. The town is also immortalized in many successful films, for example the Oscar award winning film "Kolja".
