Photographer’s Note

Toledo (del latín Toletum; en árabe: Tulaytulah; en judeoespañol: Toldoth -pueblos, en hebreo-; en mozárabe: Tolétho) es una ciudad que se encuentra en la España central, capital de la provincia homónima y de la comunidad autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha.

Toledo es conocida como La ciudad de las tres culturas, por haber estado poblada durante siglos por cristianos, judíos y árabes, así como "La ciudad Imperial", por haber sido la sede principal de la corte de Carlos I de España en los reinos hispánicos.

La ciudad está situada en la margen derecha del Tajo, en una colina de cien metros de altura sobre el río, el cual la ciñe por su base, formando un pronunciado meandro conocido como Torno del Tajo. Tiene una configuración dispersa con barrios muy separados del núcleo principal.

La historia de la ciudad se remonta a la Edad del Bronce. Fue un importante centro carpetano hasta su conquista romana en 193 a. C.. Quedan diversos restos de la actividad romana en la ciudad, como el acueducto o el circo. Tras las invasiones germánicas, la ciudad se convertirá con Leovigildo en capital, y posteriormente, principal sede eclesiástica, del Reino Visigodo. En el año 711 Toledo es conquistada sin apenas oposición por los musulmanes dirigidos por Táriq ibn Ziyad. Durante el dominio musulmán, la antigua capital visigoda se caracterizó por su oposición e individualismo, concretado en la Taifa de Toledo. Alfonso VI reconquista la ciudad en 1085. Durante la edad moderna la ciudad destacó como sede de los Reyes Católicos y por su participación en la Guerra de las Comunidades de Castilla. Al trasladarse la corte a Madrid en 1563 la ciudad entró en decadencia, acentuada por la crisis económica del momento. Ya en época contemporánea, Toledo y más concretamente su Alcázar se convirtió en un símbolo de la Guerra Civil durante su largo Asedio del Alcázar. En 1983 se convirtió en capital de Castilla-La Mancha, manteniendo la capitalidad de la provincia homónima.

Llevan el nombre de Toledo cinco ciudades de los Estados Unidos, en los estados de Ohio, Illinois, Oregón, Iowa y Washington; otras seis de Belice, Brasil, Portugal, Colombia, Filipinas y Uruguay y cuatro núcleos más en España en las provincias de Huesca, Orense, Asturias y Tenerife.

Toledo is known as the city of three cultures, having been inhabited for centuries by Christians, Jews and Arabs, and "The Imperial City" for having been the headquarters of the court of Charles I of Spain in the Hispanic kingdoms .

The city is located on the right bank of the Tagus, on a hill a hundred feet above the river, which encircles its base, forming a sharp bend known as Tejo lathe. It has a dispersed configuration with widely separated neighborhoods of the core.

The city's history dates back to the Bronze Age. Carpetani was an important center until its conquest in 193 BC Roman C.. There are various remains of Roman activity in the city, as the aqueduct or the circus. After the Germanic invasions, the city will grow with Leovigildo capital, and later principal ecclesiastical seat of the Visigothic kingdom. In 711 Toledo is hardly conquered by the Muslim opposition led by Tariq ibn Ziyad. During Muslim rule, the former Visigothic capital was marked by his opposition and individualism, embodied in the Kingdom of Toledo. Alfonso VI recaptured the city in 1085. During the modern age stressed the city as the seat of the Catholic Monarchs and their participation in the War of the Communities of Castile. In moving the court to Madrid in 1563 the city went into decline, accentuated by the current economic crisis. Back in modern times, and more specifically Toledo Alcázar became a symbol of the Civil War during his long siege of the Alcazar. In 1983 it became the capital of Castilla-La Mancha, keeping the capital of the homonymous province.

Toledo named five cities in the United States, in Ohio, Illinois, Oregon, Iowa and Washington, six of Belize, Brazil, Portugal, Philippines, Colombia and Uruguay and four nuclei in Spain in the provinces of Huesca, Oviedo, Asturias, Tenerife.

Great photo, Charo!

Toledo appears to have no shortage of scenic splendor: the warmly colored buildings on the hillside, topped by the beautiful fortress, seem to tumble to the cool, azure waters of the ravine below. The rocky crags in the foreground are very eye-catching and provide the perfect shadowy contrast to the brilliant light of the town. Good perspective and framing! Well done and thanks for sharing.

linda captura de Toledo. Aqui no Paraná há também uma cidade chamada Toledo, mas não chega perto da beleza da que vocês tem aí na Espanha. O ponto de tomada é perfeito e você faz ótimo uso das cores e brilho do momento. Excelente trabalho!

Charo, te debo confesar que siempre paro antes de escribirte. Es que tus fotos me dan una impresión tan buena que siempre me parece que lo escribo es una trivialidad, digamos, algo sin peso, sin contenido.. en comparación con tú foto...
O sea, en otras palabras, siempre tengo la sensación de NO expresarme en una manera que debería realmente corresponder a la calidad de tus trabajos.. (por eso envidio a Luis - TE usuario: adramad que sí, sabe escribir buenos comentarios)

sono stato a Toledo nel lontano 1997.
Ho visitato la fabbrica dei coltelli, la chiesa madre e se non ricordo male c'è anche una muraglia che per architettura somiglia a quella cinese.
Eccellente la vista panoramica di questa tua foto, con ottima gestione della luce.

A great photo Charo - good panorama from the high point where you took it. It shows off the river very well and especially of the Alcazar.
I've been to Toledo twice (1971! and in May this year. I loved it the first time but found it is now one of the most touristy places I've been to making it a bit harder find the real Toledo - a pity because it has some much history.

Hallo charo. So sieht also die Stadt Toledo aus. Bisher kannte ich die Stadt nur vom Namen, denn das spanische Festland ist noch ein weißer Fleck auf meiner persönlichen Landkarte. Die Perspektive des Photos ist phantastisch. Wirklich sehr schön. Viele Grüße, Wolfgang.

Hola amiga Charo,
esta ciudad es fascinante, me gusta verla desde cualquier ángulo, y tu foto me hace volver allí mentalmente por unos momentos.
La vista es espectacular, desde un punto parecido al tuyo tomé aquellas de los patos, y la arquitectura de la vieja ciudad con el Alcázar presidiendo la escena da un resultado muy agradable.
Bello lugar, en una bonita imagen y con una gran nota informativa.

Hallo Charo,
ein schöner Blick auf Stadt und Landschaft. Die Lage der Stadt hoch über dem Flusstal ist sehr eindrucksvoll. Mir gefällt die S-förmige Straße und das große Gebäude am höchsten Punkt der Stadt. Die Farben und das Licht sind gut getroffen und der Betrachtungsstandort könnte nicht besser sein.
Ich habe übrigens heute noch eine Panoramaversion meiner letzten Aufnahme eingestellt, wo die landschaftliche Schönheit vom Donautal, wie ich finde, ganz gut zur Geltung kommt.

Una ciudad que siempre nos gusta visitar cuando vamos a España. Muy buena vista panorámica de tan bella e histórica ciudad, la captaste desde un buen punto de vista alto obteniendo muy buena vista del Alcázar, la ciudad y también de los alrededores incluyendo el río.
Buenos colores, detalles y definicion. Muy buena nota informativa.
