Photographer’s Note
Kyoto Railway Station building has been described by Lonely Planet as a "Futuristic Cathedral for the transportation age". It was opened in September 1997 amid controversy with critics describing it as out of keeping with the very traditional architecture of Kyoto. Whatever, it is a striking glass and steel structure which incorporates a shopping mall, a hotel, a movie theatre, a department store, an aerial skywalk and several local government facilities all under one fifteen-story roof.
This photo was taken when we wandered through the huge main atrium one evening and shows just part of the ten storey escalator and ten storey staircase.

Hello Marlene,
I should say this is a photo solely for an artistic mind - for someone who imagines a different world glowing in the night..
Was the photo taken through a glass, I suppose?
I have vague doubts about the top of the photo (initially I thought to crop about 1cm of the top) but I'm not sure at all.. In fact, let it be as it is.
As a variant, if you don't mind, I've made a workshop version which presents a slightly brighter view..
from the point of view of TE contribution into getting to know the world - an interesting photo!
Warmest wishes from sunny (at this particular moment) Moscow,
Elena

Hi Marlene,
Wow - I could climb a mountain here and not see a rock or tree. Good training venue :) Yes, I like your presentation. It matches the Lonely Planet description.
Regards,
Graham.

Hello Marlene,
As Elena pointed out, it's a bit dark, but i quite find that part of the fascination with this place. I wouldn't have a clue as to what I am watching unless you had told us, and even then the photo is just a maze of curves and lights. Like some airports it looks so modern and efficient that it's almost frightening, at the same time strangely attractive.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Marlene,
Interesting composition to show the mega structure in a modern city, I wonder how to clim up the staircases while the escalators are out of service, thanks for sharing.
