Wayside Crosses Photo

Photographer’s Note

These are wayside crosses in Rhön, a German low mountain region spreading over Hessen Thürigen and Bayern (Bavaria). Rhön is an excellent and well signposted hiking area - and even on these crosses you can see two trail markings.
You can find these crosses - especially in Bavaria - on many places of this mountain range. They often have been erected in remembrance to someone deceased here and they often are hundreds of years old. Left hand next to the bench you can see a two hundred years old cross.

My photo was taken in the Bavarian part of Rhön in an altitude of about 750 metres near the village Haselbach.

In the distance above the valley one can see the low mountain range Thüringer Wald - also a very popular hiking area.

da hast Du ja eine sehr schöne Wetterphase zum Aufnahmezeitpunkt gehabt, toll wie sich die dunklen Wolken über die Kreuze hinwegspannen.. sehr schöne Fernsicht von da oben..

What a beautiful wintery sky ! Genug soviel englisch.
İrgendwie beiendrueckend; eine recht traurige aber wirksame Stimmung. Zumal wenn man die dazugehoerenden Informationen liest.
Wann kommen auch die "Thüringer" !!!!

A fine composition making good use of the crosses in the foreground to give a sense of depth to the overall scene. The threatening sky suits the mood of the subject and makes a pleasing contrast with the autumnal tones of the landscape. Greetings from a sunny, but cool Charente-Maritime.

This is a nicely composed shot of these crosses. The angle of the shot is great giving the photo depth and direction. The lighting and colors are great and the photo is sharp and crisp. The sky is outstanding and you have captured it masterfully.

Hi Frank.
A very good photo of these crosses standing tall against a forbidding sky - it's amazing how the sky immediately behind the crosses is lighter. It's a marvellous exposure, showing the clouds' shadows on the slopes and the distant houses. There's a great sense of space in this picture, and the dark clouds add a slightly threatening atmosphere. Superb work.

Etonnantes et impressionantes ces trois croix côte à côte , qui semblent gigantesques . Une jolie composition qui les met en valeur , avec bien sûr ce ciel qui convient parfaitement à l'ambiance .

Das passt ja fast schon auf Ostern, die Kreuzigung, etwas schockte es mich schon, als ich die Kreuze sah, aber sie haben auch ihren ganz besonderen Reiz wegen dem fast schon magischen Himmel. Die dunkelgrauen Wolken steigern die Aussage des Bildes gewaltig. Beindruckend! Gutes Auge und Ausführung.

quelle iamge, ce tois croix de pierre., dans ce merveilleux ciel, l't du fuyance, une merveille, superbe image.

Die Kreuze sehen wirklich recht mächtig aus. Vielleicht hätte ich die Äste links versucht rauszulassen, aber sie stören nicht wirklich. Gut finde ich auch, wie die Kreuz und der Vordergrund in der Sonne stehen, während der Himmel doch recht dunkel aussieht.

Impressive tall crosses, surprising how well they have stood time. Really nice looking hilly landscape for hiking, varying shadow patterns look good there. I like the way how darker clouds seem to surround those crosses.

tolle Aufnahme dieser drei Wegkreuze und dem fantastischen Himmel im Hintergrund. Du hast diese beiden Bildkomponenten gekonnt miteinander verbunden, so dass eine schöne Stimmung die Szene beherrscht. Mir gefällt auch der weite Blick in die Tiefe der Landschaft sehr gut, wo man weit hinten noch einige kleine Häuser erkennen kann. Das Licht und die Farben sind wunderschön und wirken sehr natürlich. Gefällt mir sehr gut.

A fine shot with a dramatic impression with the dark clouds as the background of these tall crosses. A good composition, where the crosses and the foreground meadow give depth to the photo. Good colours, clarity and details and a great atmosphere. Well seen and presented!
