Photographer’s Note
The dome of St Peter's Basilica rises above the trees on this winter's day like a dream, a vision before it becomes a reality- maybe what Michelangelo saw in his mind's eye before he sat down and drew up the plans.
Image scanned from an old B&W film.

Hello Klaudio,
No people in this picture, but still a very clever composition with a lot of atmosphere. The dome is nicely framed by the trees and there is a great variety of black and white tones. An admirably well scanned picture.

Hi Klaudio, it's very nice to watch your oldies. I don't think this view has changed much since you shot it. I like the layers of silhouttes with black in foreground and gradually light gray in background. TFS.

Çağla.

Hi Klaudio,
I agree with Cagla, the differing layers leading back to the great dome are what make this shot so interesting.
I like the thoughtful way you composed the shot, having the branches of the tree just kissing the top of the dome works perfectly. Also the stairway just dropping out of the bottom of frame camera right, balances nicely.
Excellent quality with the scan.

Hello Klaudio,
This composition bears the mark of a master. You fitted both dome perfectly into the layered foliage framing. I agree with Peter about the steps dropping down at the right, otherwise it would be a little monotonous. I cant imagine the depth of your experience as a photographer, when you could do something so marvellous 30 years ago.

Hello Klaudio,
Your photo is a 31-year old masterpiece, from conception to implementation, from the scan-job to the post processing. Just yesterday another Renaissance masterpiece came to light, and friends have been inundating me news articles about it. Perhaps in Australia you've heard about it as well. The creator is Leonardo, the titanic rival of Michelangelo. The painting came to light last year, and I included it in my Power Point presentations last year. I could see then that the details were entirely Leonardesque. It's value had shot up from 11,000 Pounds Sterling paid it 1998 for it (as an unknown recognize master), to an astonishing 100,000 Million Pounds. The latest finding is that Leonardo's fingerprints were found in the painting. This cinches it! Leonardo used a technique called "velatura" where he would raw paint to the board, then mix it with his fingers right on the board. The fingerprints had been seen previously in Ginevra de Benci, Cecilia Gallerani, and a minor Madonna and Child Painting that hangs in a castle in Scotland.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Ciao Klaudio, it really is amazing to think that this view would not have changed much since the days of Sig. Buonarrotti. Your scan is of exceptional quality, the vertical frame an excellent choice to complement the trees in the FG and the amazing Duome in the BG. The B&W gives it a timeless quality and the depth of the photo is extremely impressive. I'm not sure which Giorgio is the lucky recipient of this dedication (I assume our friend from Frascati) but he is fortunate to have such a beautiful photo dedication. Passa una bella Giovedi, Lisa.

Ciao Klaudio
hai trovato un gran bel POV che mette la Basilica in mezzo agli alberi: sembra in effetti una di quelle foto dei primi del '900, quando a Roma c'era ancora tanta campagna e tanti alberi. Bravo davvero!
Un saluto

Hi Klaudio,
I am sure nothing has changed in the surroundings since the moment you took this photo! only the foliage changes every year... :) Very good composition, and even in the B&W version there feels a good sense of depth. The mirage-like dome (which looks amazingly "flat" here!) in the background adds a lot to the depth and is an eye-catcher in the perspective!
warmest greetings from semi-cloudy semi-drizzling Moscow,

Opet puno pozdrava, prijatelju!
Branko
