Photographer’s Note

This is the view from the Tegelberg when there's fog over Schwangau. The Tegelberg is a mountain in the Ammergauer Alpen, 1881 meters high. It's a very popular place to go hang gliding and paragliding from.

If you don't want to do the two to three hour advanced hike up the mountain, the Tegelbergbahn will bring you up to the Bergstation (which you see on the right). On your way up you have a wonderful view of the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau (but only if there is no fog...)!

Our story: After getting up very early to take this shot and this one, Didier and I had breakfast in Schwangau and then walked around Füssen, hoping that the fog would lift.

It was around 10 am when we drove back to Schwangau and it was still foggy, but "hey," we thought, "coming all the way from Belgium, might as well try!" We decided to take the gondola up the Tegelberg and see what was in store for us.

The Tegelbergbahn goes very steep and when you look down, it sure would be a deadly fall. There were two woman in the gondola who were obviously incredibly frightened, clutching their men and shaking.

About midway, the fog got so thick, you couldn't see anything. Then shortly before we arrived at the berg station, we were through the fog. Everyone in the gondola (including the frightened women) said, "OOOOH!!"

What an intense feeling - simply amazing. I hope that everyone gets to experience that kind of thing at one point in their life.

Then off we went, hiking up the mountain, bathing in the sun and meeting all kinds of friendly people.

In the WS, a photo of Didier with his new hat... Those of you on Facebook will recognize it. :-))
