Photographer’s Note

My very first photo on Trekearth was a volcano caldera filled with a lake in Turkey ( http://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=3&p=237804 ). Here is another one. This is the caldera of Nisyros, the whole island is a volcano, and the mountains on the sides are just sides of the big caldera that blew thousands of years ago. The volcano is still very active, the smaller caldera in the middle blew in 1870s last. You can smell the sulphur smell all over the island. Nisyros and other volcanic formations between Dodeconese and Turkey are forming the line of "Hellenic Ark", the African plate pushing under Euro-Asian plates here. So the are has a lot of volcanos and has many earthquakes...
