Photographer’s Note

Church of Peace – a gem of Lower Silesian architecture, located in Jawor. The Evangelical church from the mid-17th century dedicated to the Holy Ghost was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002. Church of Peace was erected in years 1645-1655 as a timber-framed building; according to the order of Hapsburg emperor Ferdinand III, its constructors could use only clay and straw to bond constructing elements. There were several other constraints imposed by the Catholics upon the Lutherans: they had to build the church outside the city walls and of materials used normally to build barns and pigsties. Churches of Peace could not have a tower, which on one side decreased the range of the building and on the other emphasised the obedience to the will of the emperor and the complete acceptance of his orders. This all was meant to dismiss the ideas propagated by Martin Luther and his adherents. Lastly, the clay was replaced by bricks. The outer view is far less representative than the amazingly colourful, baroque interior.

Hello Krzysztof,
I have seen so many churches but this interior is a real surprise and a real gem. The square format, the decorated side galeries, the decorated flat ceiling with the small supporting arches all contribute to make this a fantastic decor. And you presented it in perfect light, sharpness and depth.

Hi Krzystof,

A beautiful picture of this remarkable interior. With all that balconies this place look at first sight like a theatre or a opera house, but on the altar, the pulpit and the traditional church benches make clear that this is a church.

witaj, fantastyczne to wnętrze, nie wiadomo, czy to kosciół, czy opera. Piekne galerie. Widzę, ze jakas wycieczka z przwodnikiem sie załapała. Miały być te kościoły prowizoryczne, a tak fantastycznie przetrwały. Pozdrawiam

Naprawde opad szczeny. Niesamowicie bogate wnetrze.
Przede wszystkim to zdjecie jest o wiele lepsze niz to ktore widzialem gdzies bodaj w przewodniku.
To ujecie pozwala sobie wyobrazic rzeczywiscie jak tam jest.
O wiele ciekawiej niz myslalem.
Naprawde bardzo wyjatkowy kosciol,

Miałam wielką przyjemność odwiedzić ten kościół w zeszłym roku.Jest przepiekny i wywarł na mnie niesamowite wrażenie, zwłaszcza, że nie znałam go przedtem i nie wiedziałam czego się spodziewać.
To zdjęcie w pełni odzwierciedla piękno tego miejsca.
Nie ma przepaleń, wspaniała ostrość.

Bonjour mon ami,
un cadrage un peu inhabituel pour un intérieur d'église, je trouve plus dynamique qu'un centré. Belles lumières , quoique difficiles.
Un bâtiment vraiment spécial.
