Photographer’s Note
This is Christ Church in Skipton
A quote from daelnet sums it up -
"This exceptionally handsome Victoria church, built in 1839 on the site of an ancient boundary cross, is a striking landmark as one approaches Skipton. The interior is lofty, light and tranquil and the furnishings include superb woodcarving by Brommett of Tadcaster and the 'Mouseman', some very agreeable stained glass, painted ceilings, marble flooring and a fine organ. Against the east and is buried the 'Commander-in-Chief' – 'smallest most perfect man in the world' (d. 1859)"

Update: - many thanks to Laurent (siolaw) for the feedback on contrast (that's what TE's all about). I have posted a WS now with 10% contrast boost and it makes a lot of difference.

Hello Leon,
The black and white treatment suits the subject perfectly. The point of view is well chosen, offering framing from the overhanging tree and using the curving path as a lead line towards the church. The winter trees makes for some beautiful silhouettes and help relieve the stark lines of the church.

Hello Stranger. You'll just have to give up that job of yours so you have more time for photography! ;D
Very well composed shot with the tree on the left to frame the image and the path to lead the eye to the church. You picked just the right POV so the branches fill in the sky without obliterating the church.

Hello Leon,
your choice of black & white lends a sense of foreboding for me. The church on a rise of ground looms almost menacingly. The single seat loking towards a single tombstone could be an opening sequence to a horror film. Or am I letting my imagination run riot? But I like pictures will the potential for stories and this one such.

Bev

Hi Leon,
You lef the Italian sunny weather in Italy!! Here you have a strong atmosphere with lonely church, lonely bench and... lonely tombstone! Good framing with this nicely textured tree in FG... it could do with some more contrast, but no big deal!

Hello Leon,
Yes, it is improved by the added contrast.
I have taken this church from an almost identical postion but never thought of presenting it in b&w, which is definitely very effective.
The f/g tree creates a great deal of interest and. along with the b/g tree, seems to make an attractive arch under which the church is framed.
I must admit, everything in the frame is useful towards the overall effect of the photograph.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Leon,
You found a great framing to the church. The compo is superb, besides the framing we have the bent path leading the way to the main subject, with the bench inviting a pause to enjoy the peace of the park. The smooth B&W seens very appropriate to the mood of the view. It is a great photo!
Regards,
José
