Boatyard-Syros

Syros' Shipbuilding and Industrial Enterprises S.A. is wholly owned by Neorion Holdings S.A. The yard was founded in 1861 and is the oldest yard in modern Greece and the largest remaining industry in the Aegean. Neorion constructed some of the first steel and steam boats in the 19th century.

One of the major contributors of Neorion were the Goulandris brothers who made a major investment effort in 1969. They expanded the installations and put the foundations of a modern yard. Through their efforts Neorion became the third largest shipyard in Greece.

In the 80's the yard passed to government control until 1994 where it was bought and privatized again.
