I took these picture during a stroll on the beach in Knokke Zoute Belgium.

This is my 800th picture from Belgium on TE.

Knokke is the most North-Eastern seaside resort of the Flemish coast. It lies close to the Dutch border and is separated from the Dutch territory by the Zwin, a beautiful and extremely interesting natural reserve.

It is famous for its beaches, and for the dike system to which it owes its origins. Knokke came into existence because of the construction of dikes that were meant to protect the area around the 'Zwin' sea-arm. Originally a simple vacation haven for the humble city folk of Brussels, in the early 1800s a lot of painters, such as James Ensor, Alfred Verwee and others, started to frequent the small hamlet to paint its beautiful vistas. The artists rented a small miller's cottage and founded there the Cercle des Artistes in 1880. It gradually became a resort town with upscale clientele, restaurants and shops.

Congrats for the 800th photo!
Very well composed and good light. Wonderful sky and interesting 'thing' with grasses on. The lady with her dog walking toward the ocean made this photo very dramatic. TFS

Hi John,

The point of view takes our eyes toward the ship which is giving depth to the composition. The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The cloudy sky is filtering the light which has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Nell'impostazione ricorda Magritte, la donna con giacca celeste al centro della scena di spalle verso il mare affianmcata da un gabbiano....ma pensa quanto sarebbe stata più poetica senza quelle due figure a sinistra!!

Hi John. Here you show a water landscape. The composition is very interesting. The person in the middle looks like on a catwalk that leads into the water. Thus the scene seems a bit surreal - like in a movie. Overall, good times and well realized. Regards, Wolfgang.

Hello John,

A very good photo this one. All the elements are separated, well inside the composition and providing a history. Moreover, this shot is graphic with the straigh line of this 'pier' driving the look to the horizon and to the boats travelling.
This shot could also be good in B&W I think.

Une très belle image qui fait un peu songer à Delvaux avec la dame qui tourne le dos. Superbe effet de perspective avec le brise-lame recouvret de mousse et cette malle au bout de l'horizon. Toute l'ambiance de la Mer du Nord.

Hi John,

congratulations for this mark. You have chosen a good photo for the celebration. This is almost surreal. I like the vertical symmetry and to see the different elements perfectly placed in the frame such as the people and the ship far away. Exposure is great, nice to see all the details of the beautiful cloudy sky. Another great point is the pastel colors which make the image reading even more pleasant. Great one!

This picture looks rather strange, like not real, a fantasy world, but it must be real, I guess. I have some difficulties to understand how that works, but it's a great educational photograph with great sharpness and vibrant colors. Well done

de grand classique côtier pour cette 800e de notre pays. Il faut avouer que le POV est pour beaucoup dans l'esthétique de cette phot avec ce brise lame vert qui entraine le regard vers le large.
Un très beau ciel accompagne cette mer assez calme.

800 from Belgium!!! Congratulations for such achievement, John. Love the slightly surrealist mood I sense here. This dark plataform makes me think of a spaceship and it's funny to see how you got the three people moving on it. There's a good balance of the whole and the woman in blue is great at the center of everything.

Incredible! it looks like a surrealistic (or iperrealistic perhaps) picture! There is a quality that reminds of modern painting or drawing, especially that woman at the center...

Why does this make me think of Rene Magritte, John? I think it is the pure , clear colour and the strong composition, i.e the strong arrangement of forms and the sense of people hanging in space.It has a strong surreal feel. regards Kevin

Dag, John. De golfbreker leidt ons mooi in het beeld. De mensen die erop klimmen of lopen geven ons de schaal en brengen ook contrast in het beeld. Ik hou vooral van de vrouw die rechtdoor naar de zee loopt. De lucht is mooi en geeft karakter aan het beeld.

Met deze 800e foto van België toon je je weer een uitstekende ambassadeur van het Vlaamse landschap. Hier een prachtige combinatie van die 3 mensen op de strekdam en het containerschip in het verlengde daarvan. Is het een hondje of een meeuw rechts van de vrouw in het blauw?

The green sea stained concrete makes a very effective lead-in to the silver sea and beautiful blue sky and dramatic clouds.
The people and distant ship add effective scale to this fine image.

Une photo très poétique je trouve, j'aime beaucoup ce moment que tu as capté et tu as appuyé sur le déclencheur avec justesse plaçant tous les protagonistes sur l'image là où il faut, jusqu'à cette balise sur la droite. Excellent cette dame en bleu accompagné de ce jeune goéland. Quant à la qualité de l'image, rien à dire sauf bravo, notamment sur la netteté que j'apprécie nous permettant de bien visualiser également les ferries au large. Une très belle 800ième sur la Belgique, merci John.

Hi John. The centered composition works very nice here. Nice inclusion of the people specially the woman heading towrds the sea. Nice colors and great sharpness.
IN Portugal (Costa da Caoarica) we have that problem too: The sea steals the sand away and we have to put it back often. I have some pictures of that sabd reposition this year and maybe I'll post some one of these days. Great job. BEst regards. Paulo

Knokke of OOstende het maakt niet veel uit, in Oostende zijn het van die ruwe strandhoofden, maar u ken ze wel.
Goed de mensen die proberen over de gladde stenen te lopen.

It's a great perspective and the lady in blue (Jenny?, with her pet seagull, seems as if she wants to walk out and meet the ship on the horizon.
