Photographer’s Note
A Resting Place
Day 2, A.M.
Along the way down from South Kaibab Trail, a quick stop at Cider Ridge.
It is a wonderful final resting place for this tree, and it is a wonderful temporary resting place for hikers. The tree trunk serves as a great place to sit down, drink some water to rehydrate and eat some trail mix to restore your energy and best of all it also has a great view of O'Neill Butte.
This trail is recommended for hikers on the way down and not for going up because there is no water on this trail. It is recommended to go up on Bright Angel Trail. There are a few places where you can refill your water and it take twice as long going up than down.

hi Way,
the dead trunk provides the ideal eye-catcher for this majestic view...and well...that's grand canyon: something oversize, big, huge...to let you know how fragile and little you are

Hi Way
I like this kind of POV! An isolated element, an eye-catching scenery with perspective... and warm colors, sharpness, to perfect the shot.
Bravo!
I wonder what, at night, is the use of the trunk? Coyotes meeting point?

Hi, Way. The old tree in the foreground is really beautiful and your picture does justice to it showing it with very fine details. It stands out well against the ochre ground and the sky. The opposite rim of the Grand Canyon is a very good background. Excellent colours and light.
Have a nice weekend,

Hello Way,
A wonderful panorama of the wide West, serving as the décor for this sculpted remnant of a tree. To me the photo seems a little oversharpened ?

Fantastic shot with the North Rim 2 miles away as sharp as the wonderful old tree. I'd love to know the exposure details; I'm guessing at least f16. The colours are gorgeous and the hard light very well managed. I don't recall seeing a shot from here before.

Hello Way,
I just love this brilliant image! It is carefully composed, full of light and with crisp definition, thanks to dry air and low morning sun.
What you were lacking in contrast in your previous image is now given back to you in double here, with remarkable definition underlining all the textures, in the foreground and as far as the eyes can see.
Colours are also benefiting from this warm glow, providing rich tones all over your image.
Touche bro!

It's a new beautiful photo from Grand Canyon !
Colors are marvellous and the sharpness of your photo gives us the possibility to see a lot of details.
I like also the green-yellow color of the vegetation on the left.

Hi Way
The composition, the contrast and the colors are top class.
I remember my walk down to the river very well. The landscape was so beautiful. But I do not remember of any landscape on the way up. I had to motivate my wife. She was so tired....
Bravo

Hi, Way,
As usual, this photo features many of your strong traits.
- Crystal-clear sharpness
- Excellent color rendering
- Compelling subject
Usually, I find your compositions superb. Here, there is a key element that I don't like: the placement of the very interesting tree against the very interesting distant canyon walls. Each of these components is visually complex and worth displaying. To have them overlaid, as here, creates in my eye conflict rather than harmony.
Regards,
- William

Hi Way,
Using the tree as a FG is an inspired choice, it adds great DOF to a scene that is often flat in the hands of a less skilled photographer. You certainly had a wonderful sky to provide great contrast to the warm tones of the canyon. I agree with Leo's 'technically perfect,' comment.

Hi Way,
You always know how to find interesting foreground elements for your landscape images and here once again with this dead tree creating a lot of interest and filling the space very well.
The landscape beyond is also spectacular, it looks like a special place.

Hello Way,
The remains of that wonderful old tree makes a great sculpture on the background of Grand Canyon!
That is always the dilemma when photographing a place photographed many million times before - how to find an original approach...
A well balanced composition with great colours!

Hi Way, hows things? Long time no see. You've made a comeback with a real killer photo here. That tree is terrifying - imagine it at night! Yikes! It seems to reach out and claw for you. Your DOF is - as always - just superb and the tones of the rock-face contrasting with the red earth of the FG are to me what makes this photo so spcial. Excellent work my friend, thanks for sharing it. Stay well, Lisa.

And I thought that I've seen almost all possible views from the Grand Canyon! Andre sums up pretty well, my thoughts "carefully composed, full of light and with crisp definition." I looked at this picture for a long time and couldn't but feel awestruck. Sharpness, definition, depth, light, everythings simply perfect! Excellent!

I thought this was on the rim, but on reading your note I see not. Still, you catch the opposite rim very well, and the shadows, light, color and detail are all beautifully done.

Hey..i recollect peter's shots from here..you have a great collection too..more diverse..rich in composition..this one is the best in this page..the light has been managed to perfection Way..the branches are so crucial to make the frame work and stand out of a thousand shot..really holds the frame together..without which would look flat..
i'd like to see a 10-20 on the tree..and a bit of the landscape..

Hi Way,
I have a couple of shots with the trees in GC as well. They are so photogenic and you can see plenty of them at the edge of the canyon. But looking at your shot I see I did not fully use the potential of this place. I like very much your high quality shot. The tree makes a great foreground and complements the fantastic sky and amazing Grand Canyon behind. The colors are great as well.
Excellent work,
M
