Photographer’s Note

Bryce Canyon may have a dusting of snow in October. The air is cooler and the crowds are gone.
The only bad news is some of the hiking trails into the hodoos may be closed because snow and rain can turn the porous ground into 'muck'.

Bryce Canyon is not a canyon but uplifted layered sea beds eroded away over millions of years. The headward erosion has excavated large amphitheater shaped features in the Cenozoic aged rocks of the Paunsagunt Plateau. The amphitheaters run north to south more than 20 miles long. This image is a portion of the largest 12 mile long amphitheater, Bryce Amphitheater.
