Photographer’s Note

Melbourne is a city which seems to effortlessly enjoy class and sophisitication. It can not be described as just another city but rather a very unique and memorable one. The city has a population nudging 4 million, making it Australia's second largest city. Visitors describe it as being the most European and cultural of Australia's capitals. The city hosts many wonderful events annually, including the AFL Grand Final, Australian Open and of course the Melbourne Cup horse race. The Olympics were held here in 1956 and the Commonwealth Games in 2006.

This view is taken from South Bank looking across the Yarra River at the eastern portion of the CBD. The beautiful older buildings are the domed Flinders Street Station and the Chrurch spires of St. Pauls Church. The financial towers around Collins St tower to about 260m high in the background. Taken during a very cold July night, to the sound of a Scottish bagpiper busking close by.
