Narrowest Street in Sweden Photo

Photographer’s Note

This street is located in Gamla Stan Stockholm, Sweden.

The streets name is Marten Trotzigs Grand, its only 90 cm wide, thats only 3 feet. You can easily stand with arms stretched, with both hands flat against each wall.

These old town homes are extremely close to each other, packed tightly.

Marten Trotzigs Grand is named after a German merchant called Traubzich who owned two houses here at the end of the 16th century.

The street was eventually fenced off at both ends, for 100 years, but reopened in 1945.

Due to the narrow, small space, it was extremely difficult to get a wide angle shot, almost impossible actually!

Hello Craig,
This is definitely an interesting "street". I would feel a bit claustrophobic living here! The streetlights almost reach across to the neighbors' windows, and I wonder if they shine light inside all night long. It would also seem that there is very limited natural sunlight.

Nice shot Craig! Really like the fact that you captured a person walking by. Gives even more perspective.

That is a very narrow walkway. You captured that fact well.

Many thanks for the visit to my gallery, and the kind words. Since I come to photography from that of an artist (painter), I've grappled with issues of composition most of my life, and I know of a number of other members of TE (e.g. "carper" and "jhm") who are painters.

Regarding this wonderful image from Stockholm, the great physicist Heisenberg once said, "Never underestimate how much pleasure it gives a man to see what he already knows." So it is with me and this scene. It's an excellent presentation, taking advantage of one point perspective, to show how narrow the path really is. It reminds me of Magpie Lane in Oxford, also known as the narrowest street in England. There, however, there is a trap for the driver. It converges gradually, luring a car into becoming wedged.

i have been here many times but have never thought of taking a photo here. From your Pov you can clearly see how narrow the street is. And as mentioned before, the sunlight is probably very limited. Tfs !

These streets I find rather addictive as a photographer... beautiful colours, textures and catching the moment with a figure walking into the narrow background opening added a very nice human element
