Photographer’s Note

Niles Meadows is the place to visit if you enjoy nature. This place is about 8 kms from the highway and is a bit difficult hike for average tourists. However whoever makes it here is rewarded with stunning views of mountains and glaciers. Somewhere behind the peak on the right is Takkakaw Falls and more to the right Mt Niles and behind Mt Niles the ever impressive Wapta Icefields.

Hi Roberto,

I appreciate your Rockies series where you are presenting alternative points of view, different than the official "must see" vistas.

The presence of huge clouds certainly contributes to the "Wow" effect and the shadows they create on mountains is very nice.

beautiful Canadian landscape, where glaciers seem to be clouds fallen from the sky. I agree with you anyway, to discover Canada, you have to walk and walk...and it's not difficult to find yourself alone in a wonderful landscape with no messy tourists around!

Hi Roberto:

So this is what Niles Meadows looks like? I had read about it but pictures are fairly sparse--I'll have to remember yours as a reference when I'm next in Alberta/BC. This is beautiful. I love the light and shadows on the mountains most of all, but it's hard to beat that partly sunny partly cloudy sky. Gotta love the Canadian Rockies. You are a lucky man my friend--I'm sitting here in Texas trying to decide whether to go see a bunch of trees two hours from my house, and you're an hour or two from some of the most spectacular mountains in North America. It's just not fair. ;) Just kidding of course. Have a great week!

we have a relative living in Vancouer and we hear constantly about the beuaties of British Columbia...wonderful scene, the sky makes it more daramtic...well done!
