Photographer’s Note

Return after 10 days on the Naxos island. A magnificent island if we go away from Chora the capital and beaches which are all around really too tourist for me. But there are many of other very beautiful villages where this kind of scene often meets.
A café, some men who discuss or who play « tavli », a donkey which waits quietly that his boss removesunties it)to to take back his work.

Apiranthos is a very beautiful village in 680mètres of height where the ground is made by marble paving stones (there are many quarries on the island). We see beautiful neo-classic houses, attractive squares, ancient cafés there and even if the village is very visited, the inhabitants continue to live with their rhythm.

The inhabitants of this village are native of Crete and arrived there in 1770. They speak a little bit different language.
Manolis Glezos, resistant Greek of the second world war was native of this village. It is known to have stolen the Nazi flag which floated on the Acropolis in 1941.

For this first photo of Naxos, I wanted to show a traditional sight of the Greek lifestyle!

Retour après 10 jours dans l’île de Naxos. Une île merveilleuse si on s’éloigne de Chora la capitale et des plages qui sont autour vraiment trop touristiques pour moi. Mais il y a beaucoup d’autres villages très beaux où ce genre de scène se rencontre souvent.
Un café, quelques hommes qui discutent ou qui jouent au tavli, un âne qui attend tranquillement que son maître le détache pour reprendre son travail.
Apiranthos est un très beau village à 680mètres d’altitude où le sol est fait de dalles de marbre (il y a beaucoup de carrières sur l’île). On y voit de belles maisons néoclassiques, de jolies places, des cafés anciens et même si le village est très visité, les habitants continuent à vivre à leur rythme.
Les habitants de ce village sont originaires de Crète et sont arrivés là en 1770. Ils parlent une langue un peu différente.
Manolis Glezos, un résistant grec de la deuxième guerre mondiale était originaire de ce village. Il est connu pour avoir dérobé le drapeau nazi qui flottait sur l’Acropole en 1941.

Pour cette première photo de Naxos, j’avais envie de montrer une vue traditionnelle de l’art de vivre grec !

this is a sight that makes the heart of everybody who loves the Mediterranean leap for joy! Excellent capture of this wonderful scene accompanied by a very nice note. I like the including of the donkey a lot. TFS!

Quite a good composition, well framed and with an excellent light management. I've been to Naxos and it really conveys the atmosphere of Greek island life.
I like the look of the man at the left and the colour of the glass of wine (retsina?).

salut diane
une photo authentique de la vie prise en toute simplicité mais avec un angle original, je présume qu'ils étaient sur une terrasse pour avoir ce POV, le cheval dans l'angle est le petit plus dans ce cadrage, une lumiére qui aide bien dans la PDV

ben tornata, molto bella questa immagine sembra uno scatto del secolo scorso, ritmi di vita differenti, attendo qualche scatto dei panni stesi in Grecia, durante la tua assenza ho cercato di mandare avanti il tuo tema.

quella della isole greche è una lacuna che prima o poi dovrò colmare. Adoro l'atmosfera delle isole in genere, e questa tua foto è una chiara testimonianza dell'autenticità che ancora oggi si respira in questi posti a misura d'uomo.
Molto bello il POV dal basso, l'ombra dell'albero che protegge l'oziare dei due signori e la loro postura.

Un art de vivre que l'on trouve encore dans nos villages. Plus le cheval, mais plutot le gros 4x4 le long du trottoir, mais la partie de carte ou le pastis, OUI !

This photo seems to me the essence of the Greek style. Whitewashed house, only men sittineg and chatting, lights and shadows and this horse as a bonus. Splendid composition.

yes, this is truly what I also experienced as Greek lifestyle - men at a cafe' table, discussing politics, philosophy or just playing or observing people pass by... and somewhere, if you're in the countryside or outside the urban areas, a donkey waiting... or maybe goats or sheep, not far away. or a cat, sleeping... =)
what a beautiful light - you must have had great weather!
