Photographer’s Note

This sunset over the Wolga river is presented in original colours, no post-processing.
The photo was taken from a cruise boat on a trip from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
Red sunsets are caused by light reflection on dust particles present at high altitude, often caused by volcano eruptions.

On 12 June 2009, two weeks before the photo was taken, the Russian Sarychev Peak volcano on the Kuril islands North-East of Japan erupted, sending a huge dust column into the atmosphere.

In workshop is presented a photo taken by the International space Station of the eruption of Sarychev Peak.
