Photographer's Note

The South Funen Archipelago is a very interesting wildlife area in Denmark. It is often viewed as a whole, but the many large and small islands are very diverse and often lead their own lives. However they have a lovely nature, with cozy and peaceful environments and secure harbours in common.
For many centuries, the South Funen Archipelago has been an active, important maritime area. In the Late Middle Ages, the largest town here - Svendborg - ranked as one of the most important trading centers in Scandinavia. Today the archipelago is very popular with yachtsmen. Leeward of the more than 50 green islands and islets the water is always calm and they will find pleasant sailing and numerous safe anchorages. And just imagine going sailing without having to take the ever-annoying tide into consideration! With all this water, it's hardly surprising that almost all families in the Archipelago own a boat. This one has originally been a coastal fishing boat but then was taken out of service due to EU regulations. Now a new owner is using it as a kind of leisure boat. But in the last couple of generations navigation has seen a rapid technological development, and the old maritime culture pattern have vanished. Since there is not much high tech on board, this boat is condemned to spend a lot of time on the shore; somewhat useless but still functional.

Very simple, very effeicionce and especially very nice. The bota in the FG give an aspect dynamic to the image. Tenders and natural colors well colleted too. Great prospect and depht of field on the left and on the right.

Hi Harriet,
A boat that is not in its right element is hardly a boat, but here you present a very good picture with a boat on land! Very good colours, maybe I would have cropped a bit of the right side. I can´t really say why. it may be those thirds again. Still. I made a WS, there is not much difference so I hope you don´t mind, but it places the horizon at one third and that fine blue rope also at one third. This is just a minor niggle ;-)

there is something appealing that I find about small boats like this. It must be their curves and paintwork I suppose.Here this old boat seems to be nestling into the shore grass. Your popv is perfect for showing of its nices curves.The foreground grasses with cow parsley and that nice blue sky make a pleasing composition.

Ah, this is my kind of picture. I love it, lone boat, this one is so clean and beuatiful, freshly painted. Lovely foreground of lush green vegetation and lake. The sky is also beautiful with nice clouds and soft light. Beautiful and charming. Good photo with lovely colors and light, good clarity and sharpness, good compsition too.

in my first impression, this boat looks the Ark...
its white body with beautiful curved lines is very well contrasted with both green ground and blue sky.
I like the scene of the boat on the shore, and this situation is nice to express the air in that condition elegantly.

Hi Harriet.
As usual a very interesting note which gives pause for reflection. The photo has a melancholy look, partly from the slight dullness of the light and partly from the subject - the old boat marooned on dry land. The few small flowers growing around it add poignancy, and the sky is very nicely exposed.

It still looks to be sea-worthy and in good condition. Someone may come along and give it some TLC before it becomes too past-its-best. :D Your low POV works very well as it places the boat against the sky. the image is excellent quality with wonderful sharpness from the grasses to the horizon.

At first glance it looks like well kept, but that is probably an illusion created by the white coat of paint hehehe...
The subject stands out well in the green grass, which is quite an original place for a boat..!

Dieses Foto hat irgendetwas Melancholisches - ein Boot auf dem Trockenen. Aber es besteht ja Hoffnung, das Wasser ist nicht weit ... aber Dein Kommentar gibt ein anderes Bild - leider.
Ein Foto, das einen anspricht, und der Hauptdarsteller ist dort, wo er hingehört, in der Mitte! Ein schönes Bild!

Hallo Harriet. Boote an Land sind in gewisser Weise ein Widerspruch. Wir blicken genauer hin, wenn wir solche scheinbar vergessenen Boote sehen. Manchmal hat sie ein Sturm an Land geworfen, manchmal sind sie einfach aus Altersgründen nur ausrangiert worden. Wie auch immer, Du hast diese spzielle Szene sehr schön mit Deiner kamera eingefangen. Whatever the reason for the boat to be on land, its whiteness makes a very good contrast on the green grass, and its blue cabin matches the sky and water very well!

Thanks for your critiques on my Fyn pictures. There are just a couple more coming, but not many. We just spent a couple of days with our whole family there, not really a long holiday.

This is my favourite among your shots from Fyn. I like the low pov and the gentle colours. On the other hand - if you don't mind me pointing this out - I do feel that the boat is a bit too central in the composition and that the shot would have been even better if you'd moved it a bit more to the right.
