Photographer’s Note

The "Metropolitana" cathedral, this monumental structure which today dominates Mexico's main square -the Zocalo- is not the same as that which initially replaced the Templo Mayor in 1572 the Archbishop Pedro Moya de Contreras laid the first stone which, after 42 symbolic years, was inaugurated by the Viceroy Duke of Alburquerque and was later re-dedicated in 1667 by the Viceroy Mancera.

The cathedral had the privilege of introducing new architectural styles that subsequently flourished throughout New Spain. Classic evolves into neoclassic and envelops the baroque play of style without detracting from it in any way. Much of this is owed to Manuel Tolsa who added the final touches to the project in 1813 by adding the balustrade and by enlarging the central cupola.

Très étonnante ta photo. Avant scène très colorée sur un fond (ton sujet principal) d'une architecture très riche en détail mais qui me parait manquer de relief. Peut-être dû à l'éclairage de mon écran.
Merci pour ta note très développée comme toujours.

Le monument est déjà très intéressant au point de vue des détails architecturaux mais est malheureusement mal éclairé et c'est là l'intérêt de ta prise : ce marché coloré et lumineux donne la lumière et l'animation qui manque peut être au reste de la photo. Belle composition.

Bonjour Fred, comme les autres je trouve que prendre cette photo plutot sombre avec ce marche tres colore a permis de l'eclairer, de plus la cathedrale donne ainsi l'impression de regner sur tout ce petit monde

Bien que l'exposition ne soit pas parfaite ici (le ciel et le marché correctement exposés au détriment de la cathédrale étant un peu sombre), elle illustre à merveille ton panorama sur Mexico. Avec cet ensemble de parasols multicolores et couleurs vives la zone du marché offre une très belle composition. Une note très intéressante aussi au sujet de ces 2 édifices en sursis; la photo illustrant bien la problématique.

PS : Merci Fred pour avoir alimenté le dialogue sur ma photo "American Brothers". Nos points de vu se rapprochent, avec cependant une nuance de taille ;-)) Je ne manquerai pas de te répondre dès que possible. Amicalement.

Het contrast is groot Fred, tussen de kleurrijke massa op de voorgrond, en de mooie oude gebouwen op de achtergrond, de verlichtingspaal naast de hoektoren heeft de loodrechte functie aan, een goede nota ook.

A very nice and colorful market scene indeed, Fred - I like the stand at the right with the various colored hats providing a small repetitive detail. The cathedral of course is an imposing piece of architecture that seems to be silently watching over the lively happenings on the Zocalo. Good contrast and sharpness. Well done.

Une photo pleine de contrastes avec ces édifices religieux qui semble mourir un petit peu plus chaque jour à côté de cette foule bigarrée haute en couleurs.
La vie continue ! Tant mieux, dommage pour les églises (les dons ne sont pas inépuisables) !

Great picture Fred. A very apt scene in a city where it rains very often in late afternoon during the spring/summer season. The bright colors of the people and umbrellas is wonderful. Nice shot.
