Photographer’s Note
The Bayon, centred at the Angkor Thom complex, Siem Reap, Cambodia, snapped first thing in the morning.
The lighting at that time of day is perfect and few people are prepared to visit at 5.30 am. The background mist comes from hawker stall owners starting fires with which they prepare snacks for multitudes of tourists due through the course of the day.
Cropped, Level adjusted and framed.
Comments, observations and workshops invited.
Regards,
Vic, Singapore. 19th November 2004

good capture, this smoke really adds to the picture - even though it's not natural

Good of you to chase shots like this one at 5.30 Am (5.30!!!). It pays with a vey atmospheric rendering, without which these now famous Janus heads lose a bit of their lore.
I wonder if a wider angle lens would have been preferrable, if available. The lone tree, main object on the right, suffers a bit from the "competititon" on the left!

Hi Vic,
Great angle you've captured for this one. Very well spotted- with great lighting as you said.
I've made a couple adjustments in a workshop- hope you find it of use.
Cheers mate,

Hi Vic, awesome sight you captured here! Love the warm brown colour of the texture, as well as the superb light, making it outstanding on the background of the magical mist. The composition with the rule of the thirds makes it even more stronger. Excellent job!

Hi Vic
Good compositional division of the frame into thirds. The warm, diffuse lighting on the statues face is marvellous. The fog adds mood. Well done!

I like the contrast between the two. The tree and sculpture.
I thought that the sculpture can be a little bit more sharpened.
You can check the workshop

You could have fooled me with that background mist. It really looks like morning mist. I appreciate your honesty. A very clever photo combining two levels and two different views of the country/culture. Very atmospheric.
