Photographer’s Note

The pantheon of King Dom Duarte, known as "Capelas Imperfeitas" chapels imperfect, is a pinnacle of Portuguese architecture from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. As part of the monastery at Batalha
King Dom Duarte (Edward) would therefore be a Pantheon, an extension to the already sublime beautiful monastery. But as you can see, they have finally been finished. The project appears to be far too ambitious ... to what we say. Dom Duarte wanted to work in accordance with the will of his predecessor, Dom João I (John I of Portugal), who died in 1433. The monastery was started in 1386 by Dom João I, after the battle of Aljubarrota (hence the name of the Monastery of Batalha, or in french, Battle), under the command of Master Huguet, a french Gothic specialist, who will lead the work of many years. After the death of Dom Duarte, in 1438, he was missing more than the vast central vault for the structural work is completed
Photography taken to the center of the vault where you can see the octagonal pillars style Manueline
