The Cascades
Cascade River State Park
near Grand Marais, Minnesota
A short walk up and along the Cascade river from my previous post of Cascade Falls moves from one beautiful waterfall to the next series of them .. to the namesake of this place "The Cascades"
Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior is lined with a series of beautiful state parks ...it seems like there is one every ten to twenty miles as one heads up the shore .. Their motif is for the most part very similar .. beautiful North Shore views of Superior .. rivers rushing and cascading down into the lake .. through the thick forests of the North Woods .. abundant wildlife ..
Cascade River State Park has been on my to do list since I discovered it on the state park site .. the Park's site begins with the statement:
"Come to Cascade for the rushing river and grand waterfalls that lay within a gorge, lush with moss and ferns that grow on black volcanic rocks."
It certainly did not disappointment. The first fall .. Cascade Falls .. is located just a couple hundred feet from the parking lot off of Scenic Highway 61 that runs along the North Shore .. this series "the Cascades" a short bit further .. or one can park at the campground above and do the short walk in reverse order.

Hallo John!
Again a wonderful constrast between these massive rocks and the motion of the falling, rushing water. The photographic effect of the splashes over the lower basin is stunning. Nature at its best...
Greetings from still summerly Germany!

Another excellent quality image of one of my favourite subjects. Everything except the water is pinsharp. I have found that I need to be careful of motion blur on the leaves with such a slow shutter, but you had a still day; not easy to find such a thing in the UK. ;D

Excellent image John! The blur is right were it belongs and the rest of the image is tack sharp. What I really like is the composition, two perspectives (down and up and away, and then the two smaller cascades leading us into the image. Bravo, well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Hello John,
un bel effet de filé mais surtout un excellent POV et cadrage pour admirer l'enfilade des cascades successives.
Une photo 100% naturelle.
My regards from Belgium.

Hi John,
good contrast in colours form the foreground greens and he deep blues of the water. the stepped waterfalls running through the shot make the shot. the motion of the water in final fall looks great. chris

Hi John,
You did a fine job of including all three falls in this stunning shot.
Love how the milky waters cascade between the richly textured rock.
Brilliant contrast between the deep blue pools and the lush green foliage.
Regards, Tom

Hello John!
Great "continuation" from your previous post! The tight framing worked perfectly well in the other photo, but this one is even more impressive! Great composition, great use of the long shutter speed, excellent light managment and colours! Congratulations!

Hey John,
A different perspective, but it comes out just as nice as the previous one. I like it even a bit more, because it features more of the area around the main subject.
Is it warm enough to do some swimming during the summer here? It seems getting in could be the biggest problem. :)
Best regards.

Hi John:
Another very nice waterfall shot, though it has a fairly blue cast to it. But compositionally and in terms of exposure, it's excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Hi John,
another good example of how to work with the long exposure. The effect is really interesting and the sharpness is impressive, even more if you consider 5 second exposure. Very well done!
Regards,
Carlos
